Milawa is hot and dry in summer and very flat being on the plains between mountain ranges. Choosing a shady retreat is imperative. Lindenwarrah is across the road from Brown Brothers winery which makes a great first-stop on a day trip to the King Valley wineries. The Italians have so much heritage in the King Valley and partly in neighbouring towns, Milawa and Oxley. Brown Brothers has a brilliant cellar door and beautiful restaurant to escape the summer heat. It is also only a couple of hundred metres from Milawa central where you'll find the long-established Milawa Cheese Shop, Milawa Mustards and the Milawa Olive shop. Look a little closer and you'll find other local produce stores and little retail outlets. Italy On A Plate is the go-to restaurant/cafe/providore for all things Italian (great pasta, wood-fired pizza and gelato). You can stock up on Italian herbs and sweet treats as well as Italian beer and wine, though it also sells locally-produced olive oil. Most of the vineyards have cafes or restaurants and they are great places to hang out and chat with the locals. There is a flat 4km cycle path between Milawa and Oxley (be sure to check out Blue Ox jams and chutneys and the famous King River Cafe) which is terrific for bikers, runners and walkers.
Milawa is a good base to travel around the King Valkey & surrounding areas. We drove to Beechworth, Yackandandah, Myrtleford, Tawonga, Mt Beauty, Bright & Porepunkah. Beautiful countryside. Lots of wineries & fresh produce along the way. Popular area for cyclists. Enjoyable breakfast & ambience at Milawa Cheese shop & cafe. Everywhere sensitive to current virus crisis & doing their bit to help.
The Cheese Factory and Brown Brothers were the highlights Milawa Mustards has a great selection Gamze Smokehouse Restaurant had good coffee and a great selection of local beers and wines The local pub needs a bit of investment
Very easy to get to, fantastic views, locals are very friendly. Food is amazing as is the wine. Brown Brothers is a must see when in Milawa. We did a whole day tour there and the staff were fantastic.
Great spot for eating, drinking local wines and unwinding. Everything very close, mostly walking distance. Loved Brown Brothers winery for tastings and lunch, also Milawa cheese factory. Mustard shop great too.
Stayed at Lindenwarrah as I know it's lovely. Went bike riding in Bright to see all the gorgeous Autumn leaves. Was so beautiful. Do the short ride with kids between Bright & Wandiligong, its amazing!
