Ideal situation to all World War 1 sights particularly the area where our grandfather was killed. Alain & Ann were excellent hosts & 10/10 for the breakfast provided.
Lovely area to explore WW 1, many many cemeteries, dotted along. Sign posts very clear. Would like to stay longer. So much to see and so. Take your time. Go to Sanctaury Wood and Hill 62 , such a good, no great museum.
Easy to travel around to see WW1 sites with good signposting and a detailed map makes it easy. The countryside is very green and the fields well tended. A good place to visit even if you are not on a pilgrimage.
A place that clearly looks after it's and our history and shows great appreciation and respect for all those who now reside in Belgium for evermore. Everywhere is so clean and well looked after, the people of Belgium should be very proud of the way they continue to look after all those who made the ultimate sacrifice. It is much appreciated.
Zonnebeke is a lovely area. Ypres is a beautiful town, so much history and, of course, the Menin Gate. Ypres has good restaurants. We were there to commemorate the centenary of my grandfathers death during the Battle of Paschendaele. I travelled with my husband and grown up daughter, not young children.
The history of of the World War 1 battles in the area are extremely well recorded and preserved with Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemeteries in the area. Supported by a number of museums and memorials to a range of battles, the area, it is most worthwhile visiting for anybody interested in the history of World War 1, but the generally beauty of the region is also worth the visit.
Amazing place for visiting all war history, memorials ,cemeteries etc. Wished we had more time to visit war cemeteries etc. We visited tyne cot cemetery and the war museum. We bought food from a local deli as we were only there one night and could only find one local place which we thought was over priced. Zonnebeke we found easy to get around.
