Nice center with green parks, cafes. Hissarlaka fortress and mountain park 1 km away, stunning panorama views! Beautiful town gallery - good collection of works of Vladimir Dimitrov - Maistora and currently - Assen Vasiliev. Recommend!
Nice town. Above the town is a late antique and medieval fortress. It is located on the highest plain of the Hisarluka Hill. There are a couple of restaurants in the center of the town like restaurant Friends.
You can relax and shop, lots of beautiful women are around who seems to do this, by the way. You can sport and run or cycle to Hisarluka (medieval castle), there are lots of nice parks and the centre is fun as well. There is no Lidl but a Kaufland and Billa and Fantasticoa and lots of small shops. It is way cheeper than Sofia, and it is close to Kriva Palanka in North Makedonia (Skope is 2 hours). We looked and found the three border point NMK/SB/BG from Bulgaria with the car + 5 km walk and all arround are devine mountains including Vruh Viden (best panorama i ever saw), Osogovo and way to Vruh Ruen (2332 meters) and further to Rila mountains which are of course the most majestic ones of Bulgaria. There is minerral water and the old name of Pautalia reveals it is very, very old and apostle Paul must have been here, i feel still wen strawling around in the village. You can come by train from Sofia, but that is an adventure as well. Who has a car, can visit the most wonderful waterfall as well, especially in sprirng, but then you have to find it... It took us some time.
The ancient name of Kyustendil was Pautalia. After the fall of Thrace under Roman rule (45 AD), the Romans turned the Thracian settlement around the mineral springs into an important commercial center and a famous balneological resort, which they call Pautalia. Pautalia is a city of intense life and is the administrative, economic and cultural center of a vast territory. During the reign of Emperor Mark Ulpius Traian (98-117) in 106, Pautalia was granted town rights and added the prefix "Ulpia" to his name. From the time of Emperor Antoninus Pius (138-161) to Emperor Karakala (198-217), the city coins its own coins, which are a rich source of information on urban life. By 270, Pautalia was a part of Thrace province, and after the administrative reforms of Emperor Aurelian (270-275), it was in the province of Inner Dacia and was the third largest city after Serdica and Nausus (now Nish).
Nice town which is strong alternative to the more established spa towns in Bulgaria. Offers a lot for an extended weekend - facilities for children, several nice food places, accessible mountain nearby.
Nice daytrip away from Sofia. Kyustendil is a small town with a few interesting sights. We did find, however, some more efforts could be done to attract and accomodate tourists: signposts and information for the tourist sights, sights could be better maintained.
The hotel was easy to find and we were able to park . The receptionist was helpful (he spoke better Italian than English), and we got a room at the 12th floor - which was good, especially since there was a wedding party in the restuarant. The room was spacious enough, clean and had a refrigerator, and the bathroom was OK and had a hairdryer. Getting out of the room, there is a corridor ending with a balcony where smoking is allowed. The hotel looks like being built in the late 1970s or early 1980s, and it made us remember that period.
Awesome place with a private mini spa center. It would also be lovely for a group of friends. The jacuzzi hot tub is exceptional. We had better experience than in a big expensive spa hotel because of the privacy and coziness here. If you are a couple or a group of friends who want high-end SPA experience but like us, dislike crowded hotels, this is your place! It is also excellent value for money and you can bring your dog free of charge! Also, great places for long walks around Kyustendil. Could it get any better?

Kyustendil
The owner is very friendly and accommodating. She speaks fluent Spanish. Who speaks Italian or Russian should have no problems with communicating. Also English with some measure of effort to understand each other. She is very talkative, but no chatter box; she explains everything in detail and to the point. Helpful with extra needs or little problems. The rooms are in the old city centre but in a new building on the fourth floor. Rooms are clean and cozy. One bathroom with a shower, toilet and a sink, and another one with a toilet and a sink, both neat and clean. Rooms are secured with three consecutive entrances. There is a parking spot belonging to the premises in the backyard. Clean sheets and towels, as well as extra blankets are available. There is enough room for a large luggage. Decent wi-fi.
