Equatorial Hotel features free WiFi and a 24-hour front desk service. A free air port shuttle service is offered All rooms at Hotel Equatorial are equipped with a TV, a mini-bar and a bathroom. The air conditioner held a constant temperature throughout the night. I usually have no complaints about air-conditioners during the day…they all seem to cool the room adequately and for the most part, function well. But finding one that maintains a steady, comfortable temperature through the night has been difficult. This one worked beautifully. The shower, too, was perfect, and BIG. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. It all made for a very comfortable three night stay. (I am from the United States, even though though booking.com seems to think I’m from Brazil.)

The guidebooks seems to give Macapá a pass, and even friends asked, “Why are you going there?” Answer: Because I like the North Beach and a Brazil, and there will not be swarms of tourists. Yes, it is hot this time of year, and truth be told, a big part of my wonderful visit was having a personal connection with a mother of a friend of mine. She was extremely attentive to me. My only complaint about the city was that there was absolutely no where to rent a bicycle. There were many bikes, but no rental places. However of course there is always Uber. I would really recommend a trip to Afuá, A two hour ride on the rapid boat. Rent a bike, and stay at least three nights. It is fascinating in its isolation, Way of life, and absence of any motorized vehicles... except boats, of course In Macapá, eat dinner at Cantinho Baiano Restaurant.
When you come by boat, you arrive in a port in the middle of a favela, very far from the city center. Except this it was just ok, nothing special. You can see all the touristic spots in several hours. Some places don't feel very safe. It's cheap, I ate a good lunch for R$10.
Fair enough! The breakfast is excellent.
