It was a safe place for walking, even at night. nice places to visit, really nice restaurants. the beach can be a little tricky, since the grond is uneven, and there is a steep slope down to the beach and the sea.
The souvenir stores on the shore are really nice and you must try the cashew nut.

My wife is Brazilian and I have visited Brazil many times...
My wife is Brazilian and I have visited Brazil many times including the North-East (Fortaleza, Recife, Salvador, Joao Pessoa, Ilheus), but, this was my first time here. As a beach holiday probably the best of those (although all good). Natal is a good sized city with a strong and important tourist sector so sophisticated options are available and the quality and range of food and drink available was metropolitan. That said tourists are mostly Brazilians (and Argentines) from the South. I didn't hear an English speaking voice in 10 days here. There is definitely lively nightlife for those who want it. But, you'll need to speak Portuguese, or have a good guide, to stay out of trouble and safe. Natal can be dangerous. The surrounding area has destinations for several day trips - "passeios" as they call them and Europeans and American's will find the prices cheap as they will for just about anything else too (food, drink, Ubers of which there are plenty and souvenirs).

the city of Natal spent a lot of money to dig and extend the beach. there is no more sand , it is feet hurting shells and stones. I can see the effect , not that many people at this time of year. and the agents pushing their umbrellas and space are aggressive and bothersome. SAD SAD sight of a once beautiful place.....You have to wear flip flops but the hard sand makes it worse to walk...SAD SAD SAD

Natal is a wonderful place to visit when you have children...
Natal is a wonderful place to visit when you have children or teenagers as it is full of activities for them and you. Great restaurants and so many places to visit nearby, packed with lakes, sand ski, zipwire, dunes and buggy, tricycle and lots of adventure to have!

This city is great for those who love the beach and associated activities. Also nice seafood options at a variety of price points. Overall, compared with other cities in Brazil, it feels quite safe (obviously sensible precautions should be taken with showing off cell phones, jewelry, etc), and people are generally really friendly. Affordable to get around with Ubers and lots of lovely views and outdoor activities. In the vicinity of many beautiful beachside communities and other things. Recommend the restaurant called Camarões, going to a lagoon nearby (Alcaçuz or Pitangui), and Ponta Negra Beach.

Close to nice beach and ocean. Crime can be an issue just as it is everywhere in the world now. Take extra care especially at night and always be alert even in the daytime. Natal is a big, interesting, diverse city with many nice places to visit. It was our relatives that stayed at the Holiday Inn, not us this time, but they told us the hotel and their stay was great. This favor of ours to them for their kindness and help would probably be similar for you if you ever were to pay for the stay of your relatives or friends. Their stay was actually better than ours a few weeks before, and the staff knowingly did their extra very best this time. It is great to see a major hotel chain or any business care ad this one has shown. Improved experience is so terrific to happen. We highly recommend this hotel and staff!

EVERYTHING!! Alan personally greeted us upon arrival and helped with our many bags, as there were 4 of us. The apartment is clean, spectacular views, equipped with everything you need, everything works, great security, perfect wifi, even had soap, toilet paper and towels (our other place didnt). To top it off, you will not find any place with everything you need in an amazing beach front location for the price we paid anywhere in Natal! Simply perfect stay, thanks again Alan!!

Hosts were absolutely wonderful, so welcoming and helpful. We were very lucky to upgrade our room because the AC in our room wasn't working and they really took care of us.
We happened on rare days of rain in Natal so they were helpful offering in house food and local options for washing clothes.
