FAQs about hotels in Caye Caulker

About Caye Caulker

Caye Caulker is a small island village located in Belize, Central America. Known for its tropical climate, the average temperature ranges from 70°F in January to 86°F in July. The island enjoys a warm, sunny climate year-round, with the rainy season typically occurring from June to November.

The island is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. Popular activities include snorkeling and diving in the Great Blue Hole, a world-renowned underwater sinkhole. Walking or cycling are the preferred modes of transportation, as there are no cars on the island. The iconic "Split," a narrow water channel, is a must-visit landmark for every traveler.

The local culture of Caye Caulker is laid-back and friendly, reflecting its motto "Go Slow." The cuisine is a delightful mix of Caribbean and Maya influences. A must-try is the local dish, Hudut, a traditional Garifuna meal consisting of fish cooked in coconut broth served with mashed plantains. The island is surrounded by the stunning beauty of the Belize Barrier Reef, the second-largest coral reef system in the world.

One of the smaller Belizean island, CC has its own charm and its own pace -- go slow but keep moving is the motto. Food is excellent, dive opportunities everywhere, terrific snorkeling. Ah, but the Sand Flies!! Ouch! Make sure you have plenty of reef safe insect repellent and stay off the sand in the early morning and late afternoon when they come to feast on your legs and ankles. And remove your shoes before going back inside so you don't bring the little critters with you. I was pretty okay, but my manpanion looked like he had chicken pox and he was pretty miserable. Take care....but go slow! Best lobster is to be found at Pelican Sunset on the west side of the island. Make a reservation in person around noon if you want a sunset table. Dinner is served all day, but you might want to avoid happy house as it's crazy crowded. The Art Cafe is great for brekkie and has a lot of vegan options as well as salads.Eat meat pies when you can find them. Use Marie's hot sauce, a locally produced product! Go to The Split and eat crab claws, lobster kabobs, and BBQ corn at Esther's roadside stand. Drink local beer. Also local rum is darned tasty.

Caye Caulker does not have a beachfront, there is a barrier wall around all the areas. The water is beautiful and we went to Iguana Reef Inn to enjoy a little beach. The roads here are not paved, they are sand or clay and there are a lot of potholes. Your shoes and feet will not stay clean. The major mode of transportation is bicycle or golf cart. The island was not what I expected, we started our vacation in Hopkins which we loved. Check out Coconut Row if you want fabulous service, lazing by a glorious pool and enjoying beach front. The food on Caye Caulker was good but repetitive, most places serve the same stuff. We ended up going to San Pedro one day and renting a golf cart out to Secret Beach, that was really nice. The beach is free and there are restaurants and bars that come to your seats to take your orders and serve you drinks and food. We snorkeled with Nauti Time which is right next to the water taxi. It was a great experience and we had a good time.

It is a beautiful island, less crowded than San Pedro.

It is a beautiful island, less crowded than San Pedro. There are a lot of activities to do. There are a lot of travelling companies, so prices are competitive. People are very nice, and the island is safe in the tourist area. Food is also very good and fresh. You need to be careful with the water taxis because they leave on time, so do not be late. They leave the island very early, so you can catch a lot of tours in Belize city. The only bad part is that the last water taxi to the island leaves at 5:30 pm. You can rent a golf cart to move around the island or rent a bike. There is also a small airport where you can take a tour to see the Great Blue hole.

The island has a peaceful feel to it.

The island has a peaceful feel to it. The people who live there were friendly and helpful. It felt like being invited into someone’s home. I particularly liked dinner at the Barrier Reef restaurant. It was to the right as you left the water taxi. You can walk from one side of the island to the other in less than half an hour east to west so the island is easily walkable and I am 67. I did it just to do it but don’t think I would do it again. Also there is a medical facility and at least one dentist on the island..

Caye Caulker is a perfect tropical rustic island with gorgeous water and tons to do! Definitely take advantage of all the tours: fishing, snorkeling, diving, dinner cruise, sunset cruise and all the mainland tours. It is not a built up island so do not expect an all inclusive resort and 5 star service. There are no “beaches” just mostly areas that are next to the deep water for swimming. Food was great and listen to the locals for their favorites for an authentic experience.

    We immediately loved the vibe!

We immediately loved the vibe! And the people, everyone was so friendly and helpful. They want you to have a good time. We liked all but one restaurant, but don't think it's going to be cheap. I think most prices were comparable to the U.S., and some things were more. Example: a 16 oz container of milk in the grocery store here cost $4.25 U.S. But you could get a banana for 25 cents. And you can easily drop $50-$60 U.S. on lunch in a restaurant. Diving to the Blue Hole and 2 other stops (all day trip, including breakfast and a nice lunch) was $340 pp. It was a great day, though! (5am-3:30pm) And snorkeling, numerous stops, was $90 pp (10:30-3:30). Highly recommend Caveman snorkeling company! We came in September, when it's "off" season. The weather was very hot and humid, and you need to be aware of mosquitoes. But we were told in high season that the "streets" are packed, and it's hard to get a table at a restaurant. So I think we prefer this time of year. No waiting for anything. The island is very small and laid back, with super friendly people and great diving and snorkeling opportunities. Just the way we like a vacation to be! Enjoy!

Stopped at Popeyes Beach Resort office where I was greeted by someone who gave me the keys and took me to Carolyn's. The house is a super easy 10 minute walk on the seaside trail from the water taxis location. The home was perfect for us with a kitchen, bathroom and bed. The porch has an amazing view, is covered, and the location is quiet. There is also a waterside deck with two chairs perfect for laying out, reading a book and sipping on a beliken. There is no tv at this place but really what do you need a tv for on Caye Caulker :)

The location is very convenient. It is pretty close to the beach, close to restaurants and other business. It does not include breakfast, but there is a pretty nice coffee shop next to it. We ordered the Belizean breakfast and it was delicious. The beds and the room in general are very comfortable and clean. Also, the people in the reception are very pleasant, we arrived late at the hotel, and they kindly helped us check in despite the hour. The beach towels they gave us were also a good size and very clean.

We loved it here! The property was beautiful, as were the rooms (we stayed in 2). The staff was helpful, friendly. It was nice having the pier and ocean so close, with access to the kayaks and paddle boards. The grounds were very well maintained. The rooms were so thoughtfully designed and decorated and some of the most comfortable beds we've slept in while traveling. Can't say enough good things and will only stay here when we go to caye caulker from now on.

We loved the location on Caye Caulker. It’s close to some of the best restaurants on the island and made walking around easy. The pool was fantastic and the grounds were lovely! Room had really good AC and shower pressure. Mini kitchenette was nice to have as well. They also provide bottled drinking water. Chris and Patricia were wonderful hosts. So friendly and helpful with anything we needed. We would definitely stay here again when in Caye Caulker!

Colinda cabanas was a great place to stay. Close enough to the ferry and the main area but away from the business and noisy streets. We had access to bikes and kayaks that were free of charge. Juan the manager was extremely friendly and helpful. He gave us a map and so many different recommendations. There was drinking water in the room and a fridge to keep it cold. They had coffee beans, a grinder, coffee maker and kettle. I’d highly recommend it.

I enjoyed staying at Colinda Cabanas. The cabana had everything I needed for my three night stay. They provide a coffee maker, grinder and coffee beans. I felt safe on this quiet part of the island. It is easy to walk or ride your bike to any of the restaurants, Split and tour companies. If I go back to Caye Caulker, I will definitely be staying here again.

The hotel is brand new and well appointed. The A/C was excellent, water pressure was great, and it had a safe, refrigerator and the other necessities of a good hotel. On the roof is a restaurant and swimming pool with great views. (We didn't eat there or swim.) It looks like it is the tallest building in Caye Caulker.
