Try Caye Caulker if you are looking for a rustic, natural experience. There are only golf carts and bikes on the island; no streets are paved. This is NOT the place to go if you expect to clean up after a day outside and head out for a classy dinner. Restaurants are open-air, many of them on the street or along the water--they may even have a sand floor. That said, the food we had was excellent. We recommend Salty's, Steve's Grill, Pelican Sunset, and Roy's Blue Water Grill. Take a water-filtration device or bottle, as you should not drink or even brush your teeth with tap water. The CC commercial area is busy and will feel crowded at first, but the place tends to grow on you and it's easy to find your way around the island after the first day or two. Take a bike and water if you cross The Split to explore the north half of the island; there is no transportation, the road (sand) is hot, and developed properties are quite spread out. In 2023, the Great Atlantic Sargassum Bloom has made its way to all windward beaches in the Caribbean; the lovely clean water is on the lee side (west) and on CC, those beaches are mostly industrial or undeveloped. For swimming or sunbathing, try The Split or the Iguana Reef Hotel. Tours and excursions are available from many, many outlets. Recommend a full-day snorkeling trip with many stops (wear reef-approved sunscreen!), we saw a huge variety of marine life in spite of the sorry condition of the reefs--they are bleached, dying, and sandy; marine populations are very reduced; and sargassum gets in your hair. Anyone who saw a pristine reef 40 or even 20 years ago will be heartbroken.
very laid back. Lots of street vendors. Reasonable prices on food. Very friendly people. There is only one beach close by and really that is a drinking bar. The rest of the beaches are not ones one would enter to swim in due to seaweed. Snorkelling is good but not off beach; have to take a guided tour.
No cars or paved roads and you can bike everywhere. Lots of good restaurants and great snorkel trips. This a not a place for you if your looking for pristine beaches and big 5 star hotels. That's why we liked it!
The receptionist, Monica from the Tropical Paradise Hotel was Amazing! She helped me out with a several things. So Accommodating!! I would fully recommend this hotel! Caye Caulker is one of my favourite places to stay when I'm in Belize. It has that 'Go Slow' environmental setting that can help you Relax!! I fully recommend that you check-it out and stay awhile, it's Sooo....worth it!!
Cage Caulked is a very small island split into north and south zones..south part is older and well established lots of good food plenty of restaurants where the north zone is newly developing and not a lot of restaurants yet mainly new developments some resorts and new homes. Very slow paced island great to get away and unwind. We had been there before on day trips but never stayed there....15days was a great experience! The people were friendly and accommodating as we have found all of Belizeans to be. We will go back again.
I loved the friendliness of the residents, everyone was so polite. You could also walk wherever you wanted to go, and I loved the use of golf cards, and the ferry to get you from different points. The Split is a great place to hang out, and the place is great for chilling out. The food is also very good
Caye Caulker
*loved it *felt more like staying with family than at someone’s hotel *host and staff are great and very personable * quiet area. Glad we stayed on the north island. The south part is more for partying * Great that we had a room with a full kitchen so we had most of our meals there. (would suggest buying food in Belize city before taking the ferry over if possible for more selection and better prices; there are several grocery stores though on the island though)
The large outdoor kitchen was great and had some well needed shade for very hot days. We had the basic rooms without AC, but on the front side, se we got some wind from the ocean. The location is perfect, everthing is close by (okay, it is Caye Caulker, so everthing is quite close, but still...) Staff was super friendly and helpful; and the place was very clean and has a lot of green in the garden/kitchen area. Would recommend and come back!!!
Caye Caulker
Yocamatsu was in an incredible setting - right in the middle of Caye Caulker! The staff was friendly and gave us lots of good tips for restaurants and things to do - they even booked a last minute catamaran trip for us AND walked us to the tour office! Breakfast was delicious every morning in the most beautiful setting, and the AC in the room helped us cool off after some hot days in the sun. We can't wait to go back!
Jan‘s Hotel ist definitely the best place to stay on Caye Caulker! We arrived here, initially planned to stay only 3 nights - and then extended our stay for another week, as it was such a nice place! Super friendly and helpful staff, modern, clean and comfortable rooms, all restaurants and cafés in walking distance - we reall enjoyed staying here! A big THANKS to the whole team, which made our stay very pleasant.
Right at the top of the little strip that makes up the commercial area of Caye Caulker. Most staff were helpful. The restaurant on site on the premises was adequate but the staff were EXCEPTIONAL! They were lovely... helpful and funny. They were much more helpful than the staff of the hotel.
The most beautiful and accommodating place to stay in Caye Caulker. Location is PERFECT. Steps from the water and the split. The hotel is so dreamy with natural trees and “tree house” vibes. The staff is so friendly. Hit up Maggie’s Sunset Diner for dinner!!!!
La Isla Resort is in the perfect location. It provides a safe haven from the bustle of Caye Caulker. The room was spacious and had aircon, I particularly liked the verandah area where I could look out to the sea.
Caye Caulker
Good location and nice staff. Our room was ok, the shower and the ac worked. they had some Tipps what to do in caye caulker in the room, that was nice even though some of them were outdated.
Caye Caulker
We stayed at three hotels during our stay and this was by far my favorite. Serene location, equipped kitchen, very accommodating staff, and spacious cabanas the are very nicely constructed.
Caye Caulker
I enjoyed my stay at caye caulker with family and friends at the beach so we did not use the room and facilities much - only for having a shower and sleeping.
The room was nice, clean, and well furnished. The staff was helpful and provide lot of information about Caye Caulker
The place was great except the price was just very high. Hotels in caye caulker unfortunately are way overpriced
