Western Culture East of the Rockies
Set on plains dominated by the Rockies, Calgary shot to international fame as first Canadian host of the Winter Olympics. The Olympic Park is still used for skiing and summer events, and also houses Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.
Speed skating and ice hockey matches thrill crowds in the Olympic Oval, whereas NHL games kick off at the Saddledome, an arena on the Calgary Stampede grounds, site of a huge 10-day rodeo and Western festival. The neighbouring river meets the Bow River by Fort Calgary, a former Mountie outpost. The zoo is on one of the river’s islands, while Prince’s Island Park overlooks the downtown skyscrapers.
Calgary Tower offers far-reaching views, and Stephen Avenue at its feet is lined with restaurants and bars. 17 Avenue also offers good nightlife, while the Chinook Centre and Barclay Parade have a host of stores. The Core shopping centre includes Devonian Gardens, reportedly the world’s largest indoor gardens.
Other attractions include Telus Spark science centre, the eclectic Glenbow Museum and Heritage Park, where a paddle steamer and steam train transport you to Calgary of yesteryear.
Calgary Airport is near the city centre, and Booking.com offers luxury hotels with airport shuttles, cheap motels, and B&Bs with parking. If you’re lucky, you might even see the Northern Lights from your accommodation.

A great city. A real variety of attractions and options. Trips to Canmore or Banff are very doable in one day.
A new pattern about which you need to be aware is the wildfire smoke. On this trip it prevented the view of the mountains for all but one day.
Be prepared when driving on main roadways. Many big trucks which move fast and own the road!

A modern city with good infrastructure and interstate, roads, and streets were easy to navigate. It is somewhat close to national parks, outdoor activities, and skiing and I would love to stay in the area longer next time I visit.

It was difficult to get around on public transport, trying to find a bus stop, no signage about when trains and buses come or what the different routes are. I spent a lot of time asking locals for directions. Also finding shopping centres wasn't very easy. Where was the information centre??
The zoo was worth going to, and I would definitely go again.
The S. A. M. stampede centre was interesting but could do with more expanding on things to look at and activities.
The airport was very nice, comfortable and I was very grateful for the weighing machine and table that allowed me to repack my luggage.

Amazing wildlife and forests not too far from the property. Ofcourse the Canadian rockies are amazing! Banff is over rated. It's just like a bigger Blue Mountain in Ontario if you've been there. The city is on the slow side but with many nice restaurants and few nice hotels scattered around. Plus an area that is all cobblestone for pedestrians only called Stephen Avenue walk. It's on 8th Ave. SW Downtown calgary.

We live in North Western Montana in a city with a population of ~6000, it is nice to visit larger cities with more choices and experiences - we were pleasantly surprised by Calgary, while it is a very large city, it is an easy city to walk and enjoy, it is very clean, the people are friendly, the arts and music scene is superb, and it is a great place to visit if you like a variety of food - they even have a full fledged 4-story mall with one hectare of botanical gardens on the top floor - it is clearly geared towards pedestrians including 10 miles (16 kilometers) of enclosed walkways to get around - it is a cross between Vancouver and Toronto.

Not really a fan of the large scale hussle and bussle that Calgary smothers you with uncontrollably until the point of unconsciousness...not a hater, honestly. I lived there for 20yrs, and just left a year ago. Moved my ass to a small little town thats juuuuust right! NEVER GOING BACK -IF I dont have to ;)

I was very pleased with the flexibility and help of the receptionist at this hotel. I was allowed to leave my big / heavy suitcase early in the morning at the hotel, as I had a rental car to drop off in downtown Calgary. This meant that I had a couple of hours for sightseeing, without lagging the baggage with me around. Even retuning back at the hotel I got to check in and get to my room much earlier than the 3 pm check in time.
Thank you, for this excellent / flexible service. Much appreciated and I had a great stay .

The staff were friendly. The waffle making station for breakfast was honestly worth the stay. The location was next to the airport & perfect for a layover. Though not close to downtown Calgary, it was a short Uber ride to a nearby massive outlet mall. The hotel also provided an airport shuttle, which was very convenient for us. Really enjoyed our short stay here!
