CanadaLovely, quirky bnb. Bright, comfortable, airy space with amazing views over Ganges and towards Captain Passage. The wrap around deck is amazing. DIY breakfast is simple and healthy. There are very few blinds on the windows so be prepared to wake up early. No TV but plenty of games for any wet days. The home is only a few minutes from Ganges but up a steep and winding road so walking back from village centre is not for the faint hearted.

Ganges is absolutely adorable.
Ganges is absolutely adorable. It is walkable in most areas, has great amenities (full grocery market), many opportunities for meals, art interests, outdoor activities, and coffee shops everywhere (which I liked). It was super easy to take the ferry from Crofton with a 10 minute drive to Ganges after crossing. We stayed for the market on Saturday which was AMAZING, we found a ton of souvenirs. We ate and did cider tasting at Wild Cider (a must, amazing food), non guided kayaking in sea kayaks (we are experienced) out to Chocolate Beach through Salt Spring Adventure Company, and hiked up to Mount Erskine. We could have stayed 2 more days or more, with zero boredom.

I didn't have a chance to explore much due to tight schedule...
I didn't have a chance to explore much due to tight schedule and my short stay but the Saturday market was one of the highlights. The town was a short lovely walk from our accommodation, breakfast at the charming Tree House Cafe delicious and the walk thru boutiques and gift shops on the way back to our guest house enticing.
Welcoming and friendly community nestled in beautiful nature.

Salt Spring has lots of nice natural beauty. This was my first time here (though overdue-- I've been living on Vancouver Island for about 7 yrs). So, though I'm not quite considered a local, I feel like there is a lot that I am familiar with in terms of PNW island life. This was an overnighter but next time, I'd like to stay a few days so I can freedive/snorkel and paddleboard a few spots. As a naturalized islander who spends almost every weekend doing outdoor stuff, I think the summer weekend ferry traffic on SS (and other Gulf Islands) would probably drive me crazy, so I'll probably aim for return trips in the 'off-season', whenever possible.

Very attractive and welcoming town.
Very attractive and welcoming town. It could do with providing more places of interest to visit, such as a museum, children's play facilities, and other visitor places that explain the island history etc. Lack of public transport to other areas of the island makes Ganges less than than suitable for visitors without a car.

Ganges is a very busy little town in the tourist season,...
Ganges is a very busy little town in the tourist season, with heavy traffic and tons of tourists and locals. Many lovely shops, but too many people in town. I wouldn't recommend Saltspring for cycling, although we did see people cycling - but roads are narrow and windy, and busy. We weren't cycling, but I grew up there and know that the roads are not good for bikes.
It is definitely better to go to Saltspring in the off-season. It is an expensive place to visit, particularly in tourist season.
A drive up Mount Maxwell is definitely worth it for the amazing views of Sansum Narrows, Cowichan Bay, Fulford Valley and other Gulf Islands - go with a 4 wheel drive, and not towing anything, or in an RV - road too bumpy and narrow, much of it only 1 lane.

We felt that Salt Spring was over rated.
We felt that Salt Spring was over rated. The ferry was expensive $58 return, and the roads were in poor condition. Ganges was packed, as was Fulford, and finding a space to park was not easy. Ganges has quaint shops and friendly people, and the boats in the harbor are pretty.
It rained whilst we were there, so going for a good walk was out of the question. The Saturday Market starts in mid April and I'm sure it will be mass congestion from then on until the fall.

A very clean hotel in a historic building. The location is downtown Ganges, close to the sea, shops and restaurants. They have a coffee station in the hallway. There is a restaurant on site. They didn't have vegan breakfast options on the menu, but they offered to make us a tofu scramble. It was very good!

the fridge. Very friendly and helpful owners. Included was a nice sunny Patio. Highly recommended

The key code for the door worked without issue. The lake was wonderful for swimming, nice and refreshing. Whereas the ocean is cold. Lots of space in the suite. Great spot to retreat back to after exploring Salt Spring Island.
