Tofino is a great destination for a relaxing (just watch the waves and hang out) or active (so much hiking, walking, surfing, biking, and more) vacation. There are great restaurants (but most get very busy so make reservations!). The small town is cute to walk around - check out the art galleries for some unique gifts or souvenirs. Ucluelet is also great and about 30 minutes away with more restaurants worth checking out. For a fun lunch the Market area with the food truck style dining is great. Currently there are road closures on the main highway to get to Tofino or Ucluelet (have been for 2+ years) so budget extra travel time to gather there.
We live on the island, 3 hours away and are always up for a trip to Tofino, rain or shine. Storm watching package deals are the way to go if you are on a budget and camping in summer. My husband proposed to me on Long Beach 13 years ago.. we just celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary at pacific sands this January and it will be our gift to each other from now on. We were beyond happy with our tranquil and romantic accommodation.. we stayed 3 nights which is a minimum for us..wish we could stay there a whole week someday.
Tofino in the off-season is pretty quiet. Not much in the way of tours or activities except for surfing schools, which looked to be going strong. Hiking and walking are always lovely here. Some restaurants are closed, stores have limited hours. The new bike trail is getting better and better! Rhino has amazing baked goods, breakfasts and coffee! And of course Tacofino is always a must. We enjoyed Shed, and 1909 was pricey, but tasty.
Was there 40 years ago, and Tofino has grown. All aspects were great. A great grocery store, pharmacy. Lots of hiking/walking trails. Pacific Coast Trail so do able! Ate at the hotel, but had a great kitchen. On the way out of town, before you turn to to head to Port Alberni, there is a little place where we got a poke bowl for the road. It was fantastic and delicious.
I travelled to Tofino for my elopement with my husband (just the two of us) and it was the most perfect place to elope! The setting is beautiful, the food is fantastic, and the activities are first rate! I have travelled to Tofino four times previously and would recommend visiting during the storm watching season. Not only is it more beautiful and hotels/resorts have rain gear resources, but is has way fewer tourists than in the summer months.
Tofino is just one area to visit here. Pacific Rim National Park is close by and has a lot of places to see as well as Ucluelet at the other end. Tofino has a good number of whale watching tours. Try to find a bigger boat to go on as the open ocean in the area can get rough and smaller tour boats can be a bit bouncy. There are many whales in the area and even saw a "raft" of sea otters. Food is good and we kept to the smaller places to eat to save some money. The Tofino Coop is a good place to shop and get stuff for breakfast in the room.
Tofino
The breakfast was superb. The view from our room was mediocre, given that we were on the "forest" side of the hotel, as opposed to the preferred ocean view side, but the room we had fit our budget. There were wonderful walking trails to get down to the beach, and of course, the beach is spectacular, rain or shine. There were some interesting coffee table books in the great room. The staff were absolutely wonderful; very pleasant, helpful, warm and friendly.
My wife and I have stayed here multiple times, and will continue to stay here in the future when we visit Tofino. You get all the convenience and comfort of living in an apartment (including plenty of kitchen supplies, a washer and dryer, and some nice furniture), and you are right next to beautiful Cox Bay! All that for the cost of a regular hotel room somewhere else in the Tofino area. What's not to like? The facilities are also very clean
Everything was super clean and we loved how accessible it was to walk to the beach. The view was amazing and it was such a nice area. The staff was doing a great job, maintaining a good distance with the hotel guests, and were super helpful. Love that everyone wore a mask. We were super pleased and impressed with honestly everything. Great place to stay if you want to be near downtown Tofino and have access to the beach anytime!
Tofino
Awesome beach. Cozy bed and room. (prefer a larger bed, but very comfy double ) We were on the second floor, with great views. Short walk down the beach for great BBQ and nice breakfast at the hotel next door. Very clean and unique building. Handy to have kitchen facilities. Close walk to Wine Fest and short drive to Tofino and Long Beach.
Overall vibe and accommodations were great. The staff were helpful and available. There was complimentary coffee each morning. Newly renovated. The common lounge area is very stylish and had lots of places to sit to regroup, eat some takeout, and have your morning coffee. They also had coolers in the room, with free ice from downstairs.
Everything is perfect. The house has charm, ample space, a great and well equiped kitchen, big dining room, a gas fireplace, comfortable furniture, a lovely garden. And it's one minutes walk from one of the best beaches in the world. Book it!
The hotel is situated at the end of a street off the main road, which is perfect if you want to experience the nature and stillness of Tofino. The downtown is a short walk away if you need to grab coffee/food/supplies
