Whitehorse was my home for almost 20 years. I always enjoy being there now, visiting favourite shops and restaurants, the mountains, the river, KWANLIN DUN Cultural Centre, the library-on-the-river, the Yukon Arts Centre, the trails, and being greeted by friendly helpful folks on the streets and in the service industry.
Wonderful and enchanting place. I highly recommend it. Good restaurants, friendly people, and excellent local attractions and recreational activities and businesses that were well-organized. Getting around easy on foot, and by taxi. Snowmobiling, and dog-sledding are my favorite activities.
Amazing place with so much to do in winter and summer! Great tour companies with fantastic guides. Great place for dog sledding and snowmobiling. Not many restaurants open over Christmas but you can get by.
The people were friendly and there was no lack of sights to see from museums, and other sites of importance to the mountains and the lakes they support within a short drive. It is very easy to get around Whitehorse as the pace is fairly slow. There is a large laundromat.
Whitehorse is wonderful. Very different than the rest of Canada. If you chose to go on any excursions book with Who What Where for sure. For Aurora viewing go with Northern Tales. End of August to end of Sept is best for Northern Lights if you do not want to go in winter. A lot of things close down by mid Sept so keep that in mind. Klondike Salmon restaurant an absolute must to go to. The Wildlife Preserve is a must to do as well.
The city is realy remote and small but you have still alozlt nightlife and events there. I didn't expect it. Some small and interresting shops are around and if u rent a car you can see the amazing nature. Mountains, canyons, river and more.
Whitehorse
This is a superb retreat. It is off the Alaska Highway about 15 -20 minutes south of Whitehorse. The property is beautiful and the cabins are built to optimize the enjoyment of the environment. The owners and staff are incredibly nice, welcoming, genuinely interested in interacting with their guests as well as being helpful and always available. The breakfasts are delightful and always accompanied by conversation. Dinner is by request and individually prepared - excellent. Renate, Wolfgang, Kate and her husband(the cook) have created a wonderful, relaxing, quiet, beautiful, friendly retreat in the woods. It is a gem you should not miss if you are in the area. There is also a sauna, hot tub and exercise area, but we did not use it.
The room was clean and pet friendly as I asked for, as well as on the ground floor as I needed. They allowed me to plug in my electric vehicle with no extra charge. There were coffee packages available in the room as well as the bar provided drinks so the dog had something to drink also.
