About Yellowknife

Yellowknife, the capital city of Canada's Northwest Territories, is a unique destination with a subarctic climate. Known for its cold winters, with temperatures often dropping below -22°F, and mild summers, where the mercury can rise to 70°F, Yellowknife offers a distinct weather experience.

The city is renowned for its vibrant northern lights, which can be viewed best between mid-November and early April. Yellowknife also boasts the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre and the historic Old Town. Getting around is easy with taxis, rental cars, and public buses, or you can explore the city on foot.

Immerse yourself in the local culture by visiting the Dene First Nations communities, where you can learn about traditional crafts and storytelling. Yellowknife's cuisine is a blend of local and international flavors, featuring dishes like Arctic Char (a cold-water fish) and Morel mushrooms. Don't miss the surrounding wilderness, perfect for hiking, fishing, and wildlife spotting.

    Yellowknife is a remote location.

Yellowknife is a remote location. So you expect expensive food and accommodation, but we were disappointed to find lack-luster service. If you are looking for reasonably nice accommodations, expect to pay north of $300per night. Booking anything cheaper will disappoint. The scenery, of course is one of a kind amazing! Just don't get your expectations too high when it comes to service.

I like the old town, just like bring me back to the old Yellowknife with heritage houses still standing there. Its convenient to take bus route A B C to get around the old and new town. Lots of restaurant along the Franklin Ave, A town where you wont miss to see the mother nature Northern Light. You will love it if you like winter outdoor activities

We stayed at Yellowknife B&B and used Aurora Village for our tours. We highly recommend both of these to anyone traveling here!! We cooked our meals (saved a ton of time and money) and had 1 stop shopping with our tours. This was a trip of a lifetime and we enjoyed every minute!

Great Place to see the Northern Lights and other activities like Dog Sledging and fishing. Also plenty of places to have great food. The local brewery is also good! People in General were nice and helpful. Beware of the temperatures in the winter!!

Definitely, it is a great place to visit for Aurora and nature's smell. And if you want to experience extreme coldness for your entire life, you are good to go there during winter time. But you hate it, avoid visiting Yellowknife in winter season.

Super 8 is very well situated in Yellowknife. There was always parking available, which wasn't the case at other hotels, so I appreciated that. It's in the same parking lot as Marks, Tim Hortons and Walmart, which was very convenient. I appreciated that there was a microwave and fridge in the hotel room. The staff were kind. The rooms were over $260 a night which I find outrageous, so it wasn't exactly what I would typically expect from a Super 8 hotel. Elevator was quick enough so we didn't spend much time waiting for it.

We went to Yellowknife to see the Aurora Borealis and ohhh boy, Mabuhay Lakeside Manor has the best location ever! The Borealis was visible from our window. Saving us time and money as we didn’t need to pay for a tour guide to look for the Borealis. Not to mention that the property, which is just a 10-minute walk away from the city center, it also has the best host/owner. Ms. Delilah served us delicious breakfasts during our stay and went out of her way to make our visit truly exceptional.

Rosa, our host, was a true delight. She looked after our needs beautifully. The kitchen was full of goodies, the home toasty warm, the lounge was perfect for relaxing, the location easy to walk to places or catch one of the reliable taxis. We throughly enjoyed hearing her stories of the past and the present Yellowknife, to sharing her own life journey. There was no request too big, she offered much help when hubby was sick. A very peaceful and relaxing stay.

Location of hotel is excellent especially for walking around Yellowknife. It is reportedly the best hotel in town and I would probably agree. Rooms were fine. We stayed two separate times. Room was better the first time and I would like to thank them for giving us the water view. Very friendly waitress in restaurant and also in the bar.

If you wanna see the northern lights this is an excellent location to stay. We saw the northern lights in front of this cabin on the last day night. You can't have this experience if you stay in the hotel.

Nothing, I lived in Yellowknife, NT for seven years and always felt this was a good location to stay at. I was completely wrong & surprised as the building's exterior/interior's condition was filthy.

The hotel's kitchen and living room are very good. The leather sofa in the living room is broken. It would be better if it could be replaced with a new one.
