Hotel Wettstein

Hotel Wettstein

Basel City Centre, Basel

The Wettstein hotel is located in a central residential quarter of Basel, 656 feet from the Rhine river, and offers you garage parking, free Wi-Fi and a free internet station. Our parents came to visit us so we booked two comfort rooms for the weekend. Both couples really enjoyed the hotel's facilities, the breakfast and the personnel. They really couldn't find a fault and I guess this reflects into the review's score.

Hotel Schweizerhof Basel

Hotel Schweizerhof Basel

Basel

Hotel Schweizerhof enjoys a preferred location in the center of Basel, next to the SBB train station and is easily accessible by car and public transport. Local phone calls are free. This hotel far exceeded my expectations. The room was large. The shower seemed huge after the others we’ve had in Europe. And it couldn’t have been more convenient to the train station!

Switzerland Through the Ages

At the meeting point of Switzerland, Germany and France, Basel is an eclectic mix of historic and modern, tranquil and vibrant, with Swiss cleanliness and efficiency thrown in for good measure.

Augusta Raurica, on the outskirts, has a well-preserved Roman theater, while the Old Town is a museum of medieval buildings. The Renaissance Town Hall looks down on Marktplatz’s daily market, while the red sandstone and colorful tiles of the Münster were reconstructed in the 19th century. Bringing it right up to date are the modern creations of city residents Herzog & De Meuron, designers of London’s Tate Modern.

When you’ve finished exploring this architectural heritage, there are still plenty of things to do in Basel. The city’s fine art museum is the world’s oldest art collection, and the zoo is the oldest and largest in Switzerland. Remember to bring plenty of Swiss francs for the shopping mile along Clarastrasse and Freiestrasse.

The Basel accommodations on Booking.com range from hotels in Grossbasel to B&Bs in Kleinbasel, home to the nightlife. If you’re flying into Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport in February or March, you might just catch Fasnacht, Switzerland’s biggest carnival. You’ll have to get up early to catch the 4 am start, though!
