Meggen is close to Lucerne and we spent most of our time in Lucerne. We chose a hotel in Meggen to be just outside the City. So the area was really great as it had a bus stop right in front of the hotel.
It has a beautiful neighborhood, tranquil, peaceful and clean. I did not have a chance to visit Meggen apart from the neighborhood around the hotel. The experience of such a brief stay is worthy of every penny I spent in the hotel.
This was the best accommodation of our entire 21 day trip through central Europe. We had a simple, spacious room. We were about 15 minutes from the city center via bus #24. I contacted the hotel ahead of time to get directions from the main railway station. The bus stop for Balm was right in front of the hotel. It was displayed on the panel on the bus. The staff was exceptionally helpful. We could buy day passes for the bus from reception. The breakfasts were great. We had to leave very early to catch a train on our last morning. The receptionist asked what we ate for breakfast and said they would prepare it for us and leave it in the refrigerator in the bar area. Very thoughtful. The hallways were nicely decorated. The rugs showed no signs of wear. The interest connection was excellent. I can't say enough good things about Balm. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Balm has gotten excellent ratings for good reason.
There's a lake but not easy to get accessed, the facility by lake is not as friendly to tourists as other places such as those between Lucern and Interlake, I thought I would never come back again just to stay one night. I would stay in center of Lucern next time even it cost more
We loved the peaceful & quiet feel of Meggen. Yet it was very easy to catch a bus & be in the heart of Lucerne within minutes. We loved Hotel Balm! We had wonderful breakfasts there & dinner the one night of our stay that the restaurant was open. The chef made us a special meal, since we are vegetarians -- and it was delicious. We ate at another restaurant in town (Thai food) and didn't find out until the end of the meal that they don't accept credit cards. Fortunately, we had enough Swiss francs back at our hotel room to pay the bill. Since credit cards are routinely accepted at restaurants, we would suggest that any restaurants that don't do so should really have a sign to that effect. Beyond that small glitch, however, we have no complaints about our stay in Meggen. We enjoyed sightseeing in Lucerne & going to the summit of Mount Rigi.
Meggen is good city which is a concoction of both city and country side. 15-20 mins from Luzerne Main Station via Bus (No. 24 from Stand T). Got a chance to visit the Aeshbach chocolate Factory on Root D4 and had loads of chocolates! :)
