Pic5ureque small town with spectacular views of the mountains including the famous Matterhorn. Great small railways and cable cars and gondolas up to maintains from within the town including the incredible Glacier Palace set on a mountain peak with access to walk inside a glacier. Pricey but so worth it, especially if the weather is kind.

I was traveling on a Eurail Pass.
I was traveling on a Eurail Pass. There were track and road closures due to the flood, but busses were provided and I stayed on my travel schedule. Zermatt is an authentic mountain climber / ski town. This was my first trip to the Alps and I enjoyed it very much. Zermatt is a truly beautiful town in the shadow of the Matterhorn. I took the Glacier Express Tram and it was awesome.

Of course the big tourist attractions at the peaks are a must do for a first time visitor. I have come to Zermatt several times in the last ten years mainly because of the scenery and highly accessible hiking trails, ranging from very easy to very challenging. There is something for everyone here and trails are so easy to access.
What bothers me increasingly is the constant construction and noise because of it. I feel the quaint character of Zermatt is being destroyed by overbuilding. Please stop! Although I love it here this may have been my last visit. I will seek out other small town options and more isolated valleys.
If you have never been to Zermatt though, you should DEFINITELY visit! It’s spectacular!

An incredible destination for anyone wanting to explore the beauty of the Swiss Alps and see the iconic Matterhorn. Undeniably, the town is a favourite amongst travellers so there are a lot of tourists. However, there is still a remaining charm and so much to do. Lots of incredible restaurants with authentic cuisine, we had an amazing cheese fondue at Restaurant Julen. Good hiking trails and ski opportunities.
What a wonderful hotel in the heart of Zermatt. The service from arrival to departure exceptional and all the staff was helpful and friendly - one of our best ever hotel experiences. We continuously felt that they went above and beyond. The hotel itself was great with a slightly dated interior but this added to the ambiance and provided a bit more of a traditional Swiss experience. The hotel breakfast was great and although we did not dine at the hotel they seem to have two nice restaurants.
Beautiful location for walks, fantastic for seeing the Matterhorn, right next to the cable car.
Best to take the bus( free travel, right across from the station - Zermatt), red or green line to Hotel otherwise it’s a 15-20 min walk from station.
Had a wonderful breakfast.
Note: no cooking facilities in the room, but on request we got a kettle for making tea ;) very happy with our stay.
Hotel Alex is a wonderful hotel. The bar and lounge has to be one of the best bars I’ve been in, great staff, full of uniqueness and character, understated luxury with bags of personality. There is a real authenticity and sense of provenance and I hope I have the opportunity to return
Wonderful hotel, the best of our trip to Switzerland, satisfactory room size, super complete structure, comfortable, with amenities, heating system, Transfer to the station, sauna, coffee with a lot of options and receptive staff. I highly recommend it!
