Set in a privileged natural location with open views of Ultima Esperanza Bay, Altiplanico offers a hot tub and rooms with chic décor. Wi-Fi is free and downtown Puerto Natales is 1.2 mi away. 1) Location, 5-6 min taxi or 40 min walk from the city, which is actually perfect because you don't want to live in a city when you want to see the nature. 2) Design, OMG, I have no other words to describe the hotel. It is not really a hotel in a city you are familiar with, it is like a place with secret pathways and rooms for you to explore those ancient treasures. 3) Food, how I wish I had more meals here!! I had the Xmas eve dinner at the hotel and it was muy RICO! Spectacular, much cheaper than in the town and much better quality, I had all the three desserts on the menu. 4) STAFF!!!!! The best--- they made me really feel welcomed and warmth. And I forgot a very important document at the room, they informed me and helped me send it out to my last stop in the country the next day. I really don't know what I should do to appreciate them.

The day trip to the torres del Paine national park was great . We are in our 60s and 70 s now so we don't do serious trecking .... Sad because the pack has extraordinary scenery ! A beautiful part of the world and not yet overdeveloped. Some good seafood restaraunts near the square.
Puerto Natales is a weird tiny city at the end of the world. Its a great place to start an adventure in (e.g.) Torres del Paine and surrounding. I dont think Puerto Natales itself (inner city) has enough to offer to fill more than a weekend - but the surrounding has for sure.
Puerto Natales is the jump of point if your visiting the Torres del Paine National Park. Lots of great small restaurants. If you forgot some hiking gear you will have plenty of choices to buy it in Puerto Natales.
Because Puerto Natales is the largest city within immediate proximity to Torres del Paine National Park, it is a perfect starting and/or ending place for travelers who are hoping to trek Patagonia. Puerto Natales is a port city located about two hours south of Torres del Paine by bus, travelers may also elect to rent a vehicle (from the many rental services that operate out of Puerto Natales) in order to reach the park. I would recommend that travels plan to stay a night in Puerto Natales before spending at least a week in the park. The park is marvelous and very large, it is necessary to plan backpacking trips in advance. Following a week of backpacking, other other outdoor adventures, Puerto Natales is a perfect place to recuperate, relax, etc. Puerto Natales itself is quaint, has some lovely bars and empanaderias, as well as a fantastic Municipal Historical Museum, which features evidence of the milodon, a prehistoric giant sloth that roamed the far south
Puerto Natales has a good mix of restaurants to suit most tastes. The Torres del Paine trek was longer than originally explained (actually 23 kms) but it was incredible. We also did a day on an Estancia (La Peninsular) as Guachos which was a fantastic experience.
I only stayed a night which happened to be some of the highest gusty winds of the year -- the kind that car doors get torn off. I would recommend Santolla for seafood and The Singular Patagonia's upscale restaurant for wickedly cool ambience (ride a funicular to it) and view and wonderful food and wine service. Great pisco sour.
