Fantastic port town and a wonderful introduction to South America for us. Great places to eat in Cerro Concepcion where we stayed. Getting around on foot was the most fun part of the whole trip but there are buses and metro lines too. Easy to get to Viña Del Mar and walk on the beach. Go at the end of April after the crowds have left but before the rains begin.
Slow pace, lots of graffiti art, friendly locals, good food and drink. Easy to move around the city by foot, and loved riding the ascensors up and down the hills. Taxi service a bit pricey, but since it's a tourist destination not unexpected. Easy bus ride from Santiago. You can tell the locals are proud of their city!
Very quaint city in the residential neighborhoods. Downtown is not very attractive. Great exercise walking around, quaint shops, lots of restaurants and bars. Pretty good museums. Uber worked great here.
I was disappointed & I think I must have missed the whole point of the City. While some of the artwork was wonderful, a lot was just uninspired graffiti and none of it served to disguise the poor repair of the buildings or the general dirt & squalor (dogs & their mess everywhere). I say this as someone who has travelled widely & lived on Bourbon St. in New Orleans French Quarter. However, the people were wonderful and so helpful to someone with s miniscule grasp of Spanish.
We visited the areas Conception and Alegre. A unique hilly city with amazing artistically painted buildings. Many verandas provide excellent views over the bay toward the more upscale Vina Del Mar. Be prepared to hike up and down steps and streets. The Ascensors (100 pesos) or funiculars help out. Lots of small coffee shops, jewelry fabricators, boutiques and gift shops in the area. Hotels and hostels in good supply. Catholic, Anglican and Lutheran churches in the neighborhood. Be careful with taxis. Best to have one with a meter or better yet - Uber.
Interesting city with a lot of graffiti. Visited also the museum house of Pablo Neruda. Nice house and view, but I stayed non satisfied paying around 10 euro for the museum where they don't permit to make photos inside. Too big amount for the ticket. Isn't worth to pay it not having an opportunity to make photos inside!!!

Unfortunately I spent only one night in this delightful BnB because of shortage of time. But I loved everything about it: the location (in a quiet area in Valparaiso which is very well and easily linked by public transport to downtown), the room (spacious and with super comfortable bed), the breakfast (the BEST I had in Chile! The home-made bread and cakes are simply delicious!!!) and, especially, the owners (a lovely couple who is more than available, nice and very helpful). Highly recommended place to stay in Valparaiso!!

We arrived in Valparaiso on a wet dreary day, just off a 14 hour flight from London. We were tired. Val is not a pretty town/city, and the graffiti is everywhere, including on the wall of the hotel. Not an inviting start! However, the staff are inviting, and our room was huge, with a wonderful bed and super shower. It is quite a hike up the hill from the port, so not for the faint hearted. Also, at $200 a night, it is expensive.

The place is very representative for Valparaiso, full of color and good vibes. It's located walking distance from the city center and most of the local buses drive till the end of the street where the hostel is located. The owner was incredibly friendly and always did his best to cheer up the guests and help with information and suggestions. Our stay there definitely made our trip to Valparaiso more enjoyable.

Great breakfast, the best I’ve encountered here in Chile. It’s also served in a room high up with a fantastic view of the city. The location is the best you can hope for - it’s in the neighborhood with the most art and activity that everyone wants to visit when they come to Valparaíso. Everything is extremely clean and well cared for. Great funky style to each of the rooms.

It is a very nice hotel, bit designish, great atmosphere, my room had a great view over Valparaiso and the sea. The same is true for the breakfast room and there is a very nice terrace. The personal is very friendly, and a special compliment to the bloke with black hair (and a temporary little wound on his forehead) for welcoming me all the time so friendly and warmly.

An old world building tastefully renovated into a hotel. Does not look much from the street but through the door it changes. Beautiful woodwork is everywhere. The staff were friendly, spoke good english, wifi worked, breakfast OK. You are well located to port and restaurants, but like every street in Valparaiso it is all uphill or downhill!
