A fun, hip city full of street art and rich history. I highly recommend a Tours for Tip tour. We went to the “bad” side of town and realized how much it has to offer. As a single woman I never felt unsafe.
The street art in Valparaiso is amazing and it is a quirky, vibrant, arty and very interesting place to stay and visit. It was my second trip there and I would recommend all visitors to Santiago to take the trip there.
We are artists and photographers in our late 70's. We were headed to a cruise around the southern tip of South America and Antarctica. We wanted to arrive several days ahead of the time of our ship's embarkation, but not stay in Santiago. After seeing photos of Valparaiso and it's street murals, colorful period buildings, and oceanside location, we decided to spend our time there. We spent three days just walking the hillside streets, talking with street artists. photographing the vast array of murals, and enjoying light meals in small touristy eateries. WARNING: This place is not level, not even close. You need to be able to walk up hundreds of steps. Strengthen your legs and be glad you did. I learned I had limits each day, but still powered, slowly back to our lodging above the majority of activity. Was it worth it? It made our whole trip special. It is truly a unique, one-of-a-kind place to visit.
Art all around, Everyone is an artist, musician, or poet in Valpo, a very interesting city. Difficult to see everything since the hills are steep and parking/'driving is breath taking around every curve, but the vistas are world class when the fog breaks in the afternoon. Excellent restaurant is CASA DUMPLING and the ART GALLERY, (upstairs near the town square and port restaurants), has a good selection of vibrant Valpo scenes as well as some very original art works. Everyone is warned to watch out for quick pick pockets!!! The Chilean staff is very wazrm and welcoming, but some Spanish knowledge is helpful.
Valpo is a funky artistic, historic port city with a lot to see and enjoy if you can accept its personality. People are open and kind to strangers but it is an OLD city. We enjoyed the culture and alpaca sweaters we bought, the food (ESPECIALLY DUMPLINGS restaurant near Museo de Cielo) and visit to Poet Pablo Neruda home and square nearby. Close by is the touristy seaside modern city of Vina del Mar, a completely different enjoyable and expensive experience.
Perhaps not for everyone, but for me it was a treasure. I would not drive here. You have to walk it to appreciate. Lots of hills and steps, hidden pedestrian only stairs and walkways. Another cafe, beautiful mural and spectacular view to discover around every corner Food was good. People friendly. Street art amazing. And be ready for lots of graffiti. We stayed in Cerro Allegra and branched out from there. Highly recommend this neighborhood. There are plenty of free walking tours to orient you and I recommend taking one. Also recommend a walk to, and through Pablo Neruda’s house.
We stayed there for 3 nights with my wife and our daughter. Generally speaking this boutique hotel was a beautiful surprise. The house seems average from outside but never judge a book by its cover! Great interior design, cosy, real wood floors, super cute patio, AND the shower works well! Which is not that common in Chile. The icing on the cake was the owner and the staff, super friendly and accommodating. Last but not least, it is walking distance from pretty much everything you’d like to see as a visitor.
Valparaíso
This quirky guesthouse is in a residential neighbourhood. The rooms on the top floor have ensuite bathrooms. The rooms on the lower floor have private bathrooms down the hall from the sleeping accommodation. There is a patio off the upper storey and a fridge accessible for all guests (handy for chilling delicious Chilean wine). The breakfast each morning was delicious, and the staff were very helpful. Well located for venturing out to explore Valparaiso, this guesthouse was lovely.
My favorite hotel on my Chile trip. Classic interior architecture accentuated my experience with its high ceilings, wood herringbone floors, and tall doors plus vented transoms. Solid wood staircase should knock you socks off! Festive rooftop bar with view added evening pleasure. Strong security at entrance. Very friendly and helpful staff.
This hotel was absolutely beautiful and great location. The decor was stylish and the bed so comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. will give suggestions to place to eats and will take their time explaining. the breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Was able to purchase a beautiful piece of art to cherish from the hotel also.
The owners were fantastic hosts. They welcomed us with open arms and went out of their way to take care of us. We felt at home and part of the family. They have created a beautiful oasis in Valparaiso. The hotel is charming and full of great stories.

Valparaíso
The entire hotel is beautifully designed and we loved the location in the heart of Valparaiso. The hosts also go above and beyond on the breakfast in the morning and answering any questions of the guests.
Valparaíso
Very, very helpful and charming! This is a really nice way to visit Chile. More like a family stay than a hotel, or a backpacker hostel. Walking distance everywhere when you know Valparaiso.
The location is very central - facing Plaza Sotomayor, making it ideal to access the different hills of Valparaiso. The hotel itself was also old and characterful.
The hotel was much older than we expected. We have stayed at other Ibis properties that are much nicer in appearance. Breakfast was not that good.
Amazing hotel boutique, parking next to the hotel. the view from the balcony and the terrace is great for the breakfast and sunset.
