Set on Valparaiso’s Alegre Hill, a Unesco World Heritage Site, Casa Galos Hotel & Lofts has apartments with chic décor and views of Valparaiso’s picturesque hills. The stay in this little hotel exceeded our expections in many aspects. The house is located in the upper part of the historic center of Valparaiso. From the roof terrace we enjoyed a magnificent view over the harbour and the bay. The bedrooms were large, well equipped and very clean. The breakfast was excellent. The overall service and hospitality was great. But most impressive was the extraordinary helpfulness and support of the whole hotel team after a serious injury requiring a 2 days hospitalisation of one member of our group. Among other things it was offered to the other three persons to stay in the hotel for an additional night without being charged for that.

I was travelling with my 15 year old son, we have very little Spanish between us so felt quite limited In our ability to ask for information. We were warned about safety by our Uber driver when we arrived so were quite wary of going out at night. It would be useful to have more information about safe places to go, good places to eat etc especially for the evening. Walking the streets looking at all the street art was a great thing to do and felt safe during the day. Beware it is exceedingly hilly!! We did wait for the free walking tour but the guide didn’t turn up, which was a shame. One evening we took an Uber to Vina del Mar which felt safer and being on the beach for sunset was lovely, I would recommend that. There were also many places to eat and relax there.
Valparaiso has gone downhill since last I visited, 7 years ago. Only five ascensores still running. People say pandemic/policies hit pretty hard economically but socially it seems affected as well. Still lots of great street art but more encroaching graffiti (infantile, egotistical, U.S. gang-style tags, etc.) and angry sloganeering (including pervasive "ACAB"--isn't that English?--and trans v. TERF sectarian in-fighting--I guess that's everywhere now). Don't remember so much obesity (tip: tattoos don't help!), dirt, litter, and dog poo or so many street vendors (not just artisans but lots of poor people selling household goods) and gambling dens. A bit of folkloric seediness, like in the wharf area, can be charming but too much can be a downer. Still a culturally vibrant city and beautiful if you get up into the hills.
Valparaíso is a city with a rich history, arquitecture and cultural life. The city has been severly damaged since the social uprising in 2019, and many areas on streets on the coast have not recovered (businesses closed). Viña del mar and Concon offer a more beachy and touristy daytrip from Valparaíso.
It's a very atmospheric city, fascinating street art and bursts of colour everywhere. When we encountered street protests they were easily avoided and people were exceptionally kind and helpful. We were glad that we had the transfer organised for us from the airport. If you're looking for a great place to eat with good view too, find Cafe Turri! We had lunch one day and returned next day for dinner!
A very different place. We love all the paintings and where was a lot of restaurants with great food. Lovely rooftop bars with excellent coctails. A very special place with funiculars wich take you up and down the hills. We recommended a "free walking tour" so you can see the best and get a lot of information.
Unique place. Colourful, traditional and alternative cultural place, a lot of artist and art in the streets. Nice bars and exciting nightlife. Buetiful views, very photogenic. Amazing art galleries, specially close to Plaza Sotomayor main square.
Everything - the rooms were clean and spacious and nicely decorated. The facilities are really good and the rooftop bar is the best bar in Valparaíso . The views and the wine were incredible. The best part was Grant - he was super helpful and his wine tasting is a must- his knowledge and passion about wine are incredible. He is also super knowledgeable about Chile - we learnt a lot! He was also super helpful with a transfer to Santiago making sure we got to the hotel. It’s a must stay in Valparaíso and we would definitely go back.
Valparaíso
This place was fantastic, we loved our stay here. It is located super close to the main touristic centre, and near some bus stops to Viña del Mar and other places in Valparaiso. The owners were very friendly and gave us lots of tips and information about where to go. The breakfast was delicious with many options, and the owners even went through extra effort to prepare a great vegan breakfast for us. The B&B itself was clean and felt very COVID-safe. Would recommend 100% and come back in any future trips to the city.
Valparaíso
Personal attention by the very helpful and accessible owners, the relative quiet of the place as the rooms are simple but well designed, as well as isolated from outside noise (especially the ubiquitous dogs of Valparaiso) and the strong wind, views on the outer bay from almost all rooms, very good wifi, a good place to work, too. Common areas are lovely, super clean and again, as tastefully designed as practical and inviting.
This hotel was absolutely amazing! It is in the best area in Valparaiso and equipped with a fabulous owner and a glorious view. The entire hotel feels brand new with its effortless modern vibe. The minimalist chic doesn't detract from the wall to wall windows. The ground floor boasts a private patio while the top room has a never ending view of the waterfront. The breakfast is fantastic too!
Valparaíso
The rooms are large and wide. Although it is an old building, the infrastructure isn't so bad. Comparing to other places in Valparaiso, definitely that`s a good one to stay. We went for New Year`s and during covid19 reopening, so the hostal wasn`t crowd (good for confort, not that good to meet people). In general, specially because of location, that`s a good spot to stay.
Helpful staff, charming small hotel, room 3 ( I think)...large with bay window to the sea! Perfect landing spot after flight to Santiago... Zero Hotel in Valparaíso. The street is lined with interesting local craft and clothing shops. Hotel helped with transfer arrangements and pointed us to good spots in the old town, where we were situated. Fine experience!
Located in trendy section of Valparaiso—near many of the mural drawings the city is known for. It was a charming, old hotel with a lot of character. Patio bar with friendly bartender. Great breakfast included in price served every morning. Nice restaurant on lower level for nice meals. Staff friendly and helpful.
The hotel was in a lovely area of Valpo and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The roof terrace was a great place to hang out with good views of the town and harbour.
Friendly staff, perfect location, very comfortable lovely boutique hotel. Great breakfast, close to many restaurants, stores and sights. Owner is great. Would stay there again.
Somerscales is a lovely hotel in a great area of Valparaiso. The staff was very friendly and helpful and had taken all possible coronavirus precautions.
A sweet hotel with very helpful stuff located only 10mins walk from the bohemian part of Valparaiso with many nice bars and restaurants.
the concept, the invitation to trip in an experience of art…I really like the concept behind this hotel
Hotel is fabulous. View, amenities, room, staff, location, the bed and shower are all fantastic.
very convenient location, great view from the room’s balcony (room 207) and the restaurant on the roof. Uber from the downtown is just around 1.5k CLP. Heater and air-con worked fine.
