Spring Orchid Youth Hotel is located in Xijiang and features a terrace. Among the facilities of this property are a restaurant, a 24-hour front desk and room service, along with free WiFi. The hotel had a nice smell of wood and the room was very cozy, with a great view. The personal was very friendly (inviting me to their own table and talking to me) and helpful. I recommend it.
Kaili itself is largely off the tourist radar, so enjoy it! Some of the local villages are tourist magnets, so do your research and seek out smaller venues--there are many and local transport can get you there.
I think Kaili doesn't see many tourists. We found that a good thing, as the city lacks all the typical touristy things (souvenir shops, loads of busses, etc) which is sometimes difficult to escape when travelling through China. It's a typical middle-sized Chinese city in development, meaning you will find smartphone shops next to old farmers selling their goods on open markets. We found the night market excellent: full of Chinese life with farmers from outside the city selling fruit and vegetables. No tourist stuff, a genuine Chinese market for the locals. The city is a good base to explore surrounding villages, learn about the minorities that live there and for some hiking. In some of these villages tourism is small or non-existent.
KAILI is the city in general environment is very good, people more enthusiasm, especially the merchant girl, always smile at people.Hilly city like to live a natural oxygen bar, I can walk around to breathe, I don't have to worry about the fog here, can also enjoy the quiet environment, make people happy.
Good jump off point for day trips. We did not see any other foreigners during our 2 night stay. Rare to find someone who can speak English, so English speaking guide arranged by hotel very helpful. We enjoyed trip to Matang (batiks), she yuan (hillside temples), Langde (silver makers), Shiqiao ( paper making).,
