Excellent location right in the middle of Pingyao ancient town surrounded by restaurants and shops etc. All the staffs are friendly and helpful. They offered drop off and pick up from the railway station at a very little cost and because cars are not allowed inside of the ancient city, someone from the hotel will wait and greet at the entrance gate. Room was clean and comfortable. Enjoy and immerse yourself in the beauty and charming ancient China.

We had an amazing time at Elsewhere Hotel. The hotel is located in the old city centre of Pingyao, and it is an old building in Chinese style. When we arrived, we had a warm welcome with a cup of tea. The staff is really friendly, and they speak English very well. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a hotel with greater hospitality! The staff helped us with tickets for several attractions in the old city. We really recommend to stay at this hotel!

I city full of character— tourists must be a part of it’s rejuvenation- It’s really old— so you must accept that reality.. I visited in February— with warmer weather and more time, I’d happily spend another day. For me, being over 60 allowed free entry to many places—- but I believe there is a pass available which covers entrances to most places..

Pingyao was a 2-day side trip from our Beijing trip.

Pingyao was a 2-day side trip from our Beijing trip. With the super fast HSR, the journey still took 3-4 hrs, but it was well worth it. The train ride itself was an experience itself. We love the local Pingyao food especially those with the vinegar, never had dishes with vinegar so good! Plenty of historical and cultural sights to see within the ancient city walls but we hired a car for a day to travel out to see other places of interest like Zhenguo Temple and Qiao Family Courtyard (乔家大院) which is about 30 mins drive from the ancient city. Last but not least, the Pingyao experience is not complete without seeing Youjian Pingyao (又见平遥) it was the most immersive show I had ever experienced!

We stayed only in the ancient city, inside the walls.

We stayed only in the ancient city, inside the walls. It's a unique and very well maintained location, full of attractions to be visited. All the attractions are included in a ticket valid for 3 days. We stayed one day only and we selected the 5 main highlights of the city. The streets at night are sparkling with live music everywhere.

This hotel has more of a bare-bones appeal to it, but comes with a long history and period-accurate restoration. It is in the Pingyao Old City, they allow late check-in and check-out. Hosts speak english and are very kind and helpful.

The city is undeniably beautiful and feels like a living museum, perfectly preserved in time. However, it’s very touristy, with shops that all seem to offer the same souvenirs, making it feel like a true tourist trap. It’s worth a quick visit, but I wouldn’t recommend spending too much time there. Additionally, I was disturbed to see many pigs and other animals kept in small quarters in some stores. If you’re sensitive to animal welfare issues, this may be hard to stomach. Overall, while the city has its charm, be mindful of its tourist-centric nature.

Beautiful ancient city, and you still can feel the daily normal leaving of its inhabitants. Liked the most to have 99.9999% chinese tourist at this time of the year, Mid March. Only 4 westerners encountered. Chinese History at its best. Lots of historical places to visit and learn from ancient China. Unmissable for local and foreigner travellers.

Staying at Pingyao Ji Family Courtyard Inn in Pingyao was a truly memorable and wonderful experience for me. The hotel has been brilliantly refurbished and equipped with modern hotel amenities (e.g air conditioning, modern toilets and showers, etc) in a manner that makes it extremely comfortable and convenient, yet without lessening the authentic, old feel which makes it so appealing.I feel it was the exceptional hospitality and genuine friendliness of the staff that made my stay so great.

I had a fantastic experience here from start to finish. The complimentary station pick-up and drop-off was flawless, making the logistics completely stress-free. The hotel itself is brand new and beautifully designed, offering a modern and comfortable retreat. A special thanks to the English-speaking host, whose genuine care and local tips truly created the best Pingyao experience for me. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area. Thanks again!

Good location near one of the main shopping streets. Hotel was very helpful to arrange taxi services to and from the Pingyao Gucheng station (with a fee). Beds were super comfy. Best part were the courtyards...they were very beautifully maintained and curated, worth a lot of pictures, but without looking too 'touristy'. The owner/receptionist was very kind and helpful, and spoke good English.

A lovely boutique hotel in a beautiful old building. Comfortable, warm and clean. A gem! I had such a lovely stay. Helen, Fanny and manager Alice are so helpful and friendly. Alice speaks excellent English. Perfectly located for the beautiful old city of Pingyao.
