This city doesn’t do anything for tourists. You can’t get a map of the city. Buses lines are confusing. It’s very hard to find your way. Even the police can t tell you for example where the Botero museum is!
Unfortunately, Bogota is not the greatest place in Colombia. It is located at high elevation (2,600m) which determines the weather (18-20C with occasional cold rain). Because of that it is not a great destination for people from up North looking for warmth during cold winter days. The city itself is also dilapidated. The old, beautiful churches painted with graffiti. Roads and sidewalks need repairs. Most buildings in the centro historico are in bad shape. In that regard, the business section of Bogota looks a little better ( it is located 20 minutes walking distance from the main Bolivar Plaza). Taxis are cheap, so getting around is easy. Soldiers with machine guns in the historical Bogota are a sign that Colombia has some ways to go before putting its violent past completely to rest. Colombia is a developing, not a developed nation right now.
Lots to see and do in the area. Staff are really helpful and friendly. Tons of food options, but avoid the Mexican sounding restaurant that has a huge selection. My meal was really bad and not cheap. Most places off affordable, tasty The salt cathedral was very interesting and can be reached by bus quite easily, but plan for a long trip.
It is worth visiting Bogota for 2 days. It takes one day to make a trip to see the Salt Chatedral and another day to see the main city centre and to make a visit to the Monserrate via funicular. There are also Botero and gold museums that are worth visiting and they won't take you more than 45 minutes (Botero museum is free). While in the city centre make a walk to the graffiti part of the town aswell as it is close by.
The historic buildings and museums were great. The Emerald Trade Center was a bit of a bust for us. You need to go on a day when the brokers, not just the retail stores, are open if you are serious about buying an emerald.
Bogota is very green and nature and mountains are beautiful. Neighborhoods are quiet, have clean air, and beautiful to walk and explore and preferred over the busy main streets with overwhelming diesel exhaust smell. Friendly people, orderly lines at bus stops. Usaqyen area is charming. Park 93 area is beautiful. Food and taxis are inexpensive for tourists. Taxis are often less expensive than Uber -- unsure whether Uber is legal but the app functions there. For espresso lovers/addicts :) there are many nice places -- there's the omni present Juan Valdez cafes, in Usaquen Quindio Mio, San Alberto, Cataceon Publica -- my favorite -- very quiet and charming neighborhood, delicious coconut cake. International franchises are present but best to try local fair. There are high locations besides mount Monserate that offer panoramic view of Bogota.
Teusaquillo, Bogotá
It was my first stay in Bogota and in Colombia. I was surprised how much 5€ could get you... So far (after over a month in Colombia and many hostels/motels) this has been the best bargain ! Everything was new and clean. Probably the best single bunk bed to be have in any hostels. I'd say they're 1 person and a half bed with very nice mattresses and 2 pillows. A lot of privacy eventho it's a dormitory. Staff was nice and friendly. I also liked the bar at reception... Great to meet people !
Very close to the airport. It is good for short stay for the last day of our trip. The Bogota botanic garden is few minutes away by taxi as a bonus (we did visit it after have\ing our luggages stored in the hotel). Clean room, good street and mountain view from the room. The food in the bar and restaurant was good. Free shuttle bus, but only one every hour. If you arrive the airport on the hour, you can go to the departure (on the second floor) gate 5, the shuttle bus waiting area for the hotel shuttle.
Nice basic buffet, as expected in a more Colombian traditional service. Local fruits, cheese, sandwich ham, bakery goods and scrambled eggs. Juices, coffee yogurt. Very friendly and attentive staff, knew me by name as I approached desk. Nice surprise... came back to my room and it was my birthday and the hotel had left a nice little pastry and balloons... very appreciated - Ive never had that happen before!
We had a wonderful stay, I stayed at Hotel Habitel about 8 years ago, and again last night, and it was and continues to be a top hotel. The breakfast was wonderful, the room top notch, and the staff helpful. We arrived around 2 am and the helpful staff brought a crib to our room for our toddler to sleep in. I will definitely stay there again whenever I need a place to stay in Bogota near the airport.
I arrived.. and to my horror I HAD LOST MY PASSPORT. The hotel staff, started to telephone the airport.. the taxi company, and a coffee shop. After one hour the hotel staff tracked down and recovered my lost passport BEAT THAT !!! for customer service.. The breakfast is fantastic The location is perfect The rooms are quite It has a restaurant - terrace with a panoramic view over Bogota.
Exceptional charming boutique hotel in convenient part of Bogota. Friendly and attentive staff. The roof patio is not to be missed. Breakfast is included. We had a red eye flight home and front desk allowed a late check out to accommodate us since room was not booked. Things will go smoother if you know some Spanish but that is generally true all over Colombia.
Great hotel for our first few nights in Colombia. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. It's in a nice area with a few resteraunts and bars around, if a little far from the city centre. The breakfast was brilliant with a great mix of European and Colombian food. Would certianly stay again if I was in Bogota
Dear I m specialist Engineer that the last 25 Years travel for work around the world I find in Plaza hotel Bogota one of the best service ever see . This is my favourite hotel in Bogota. I travel a lot and I said to my husband that this is the ideal hotel to go to when arriving in a new city. It is easy to get to from the airport. The wifi is strong. The staff are very friendly. Breakfast is excellent and the staff in the restaurant are the BEST.
We need more details about good locations to stay in particular Colombia. When I arrived at the hotel I saw a lot of police in front of the property. Also we need to know about restaurants open 24 hours, There is normal to have 24h service. Good tip to advise it. Good breakfast. Thank you, guys.
Engativa, Bogotá
the fact that this place offers free luggage storage gives it a million stars from me! dorm beds were super comfy and private with curtains. perfect location close to airport and bus terminal. good vibes throughout and lovely outdoor terrace/garden area to chill. best prices in Colombia
Near to shops, restaurants, bars and the start of the must-do (!) graffiti tour at Parque de Los Periodistas Baggage storage, which might come in handy if Bogotá is your travel hub for various other locations within Colombia Spacious rooms, some offer a balcony
Candelaria - Centro Historico, Bogotá
Great and very safe location in the city centre, very interesting historical building, spacious and clean room. Owner with perfect english is very helpful, gave us many tips and shared knowledge about Bogota and Colombia. Highly recommended.
Big breakfast with typical colombian food. Even though the staff had some issues remembering the orders, they were very kind and helpful. Great and safe location for a visit in Bogota.
The bed was one of the best I’ve ever slept in a hotel in Colombia. Also, the staff was respectful and very hospitable. The ambiance was fantastic as well.
Staff were very understanding of my situation and I would stay there again if I ever had to go to Bogota Colombia again.
Good close stop to Bogotá airport. shuttle service picked me up on middle of the night. hotel clean and modern
Breakfast is good, close the airport. The Best hotel in Bogota
