The staff were friendly and very helpful. They recommended places to go, helped me call a taxi, and gave me tips on how to get around. As a solo female traveler, they never said my room number out loud and it made me feel safe.
The rooms are clean and cute, I loved the shower! The ac kept the room at a comfortable temperature. The location is absolutely perfect! Steps from everything, including restaurants, shops, parks, museums and china town! The bed was a little hard for my personal liking but the pillows were great! Otherwise, the room was absolutely perfect for the time I spent there and I would return.

Go straight to "La Plaza de la Cultura". The "Teatro Nacional" is right there and across from it, you can go up to the "Hotel Costarrica's" restaurant to enjoy a view of the plaza and have a nice breakfast. From there, walk down to the "Mercado central". There you'll find all the souvenirs you need to bring back with you, as well as many options of freshly roasted coffee. Eat there. It's authentic and fresh. That's it. If you want to add the "Museo de oro", or the "Museo Nacional" to your stops that one day, it's nice, but there's nothing else to see. Don't wonder around. I'm telling you, I'm tico, I've plenty of friends visiting from aboard all the time and Costa Rica's beauty lies on its food, it's people and on it's beaches, national parks and volcanos, not on its cities.

Honestly, I was surprised to see how untaken care of the city was. I saw way too many dirty streets covered in trash and homeless people. It's a very crowded city with waaay too much traffic. I probably wouldn't spend more than a day here next time. I do recommend visiting the San Jose Central Market though, it's great for souvenir shopping and there are also small puestos where you can eat and the food is a lot cheaper than you would find it anywhere also and it's just as good!

We stayed here only as a docking space upon arrival and departure from Costa Rica, spending one night after our flight to SJO and one night before our flight home. I had been here before and enjoyed the museums and plazas and colonial architecture, but this visit was too short to do those. So on our arrival, we stayed in the Aranjuez neighborhood and felt very safe and secure walking and exploring the nearby Escalante barrio - we highly recommend Hotel Aranjuez. But on the departure visit, we ventured to Mercado Central and then got a bit lost upon exit. We ended up on what I can only refer to as "junkie street" where people were literally handing off drugs and tapping crack pipes against the sidewalk two feet from us. Streets were full of people sleeping alongside buildings at 12pm. A kind woman approached us at one point and said, "This is a bad area...please keep safe." We followed her to a nicer block with a big bank and called an Uber. For the most part, downtown San Jose seemed seedy and full stores selling of gross, cheap junk. I will never again venture into the downtown and would caution anyone else visiting to avoid it. We ate chifrijo and drank Imperial beer at Aguizotes Gastropub and loved it. Also dined at The Corner (restaurant attached to our hotel, Casa Aldea) which was decent pizza but weird Caesar salad (croutons were just toasted Bimbo white bread LOL). And our best Sam Jose meal was breakfast at Cafe Momo - delicious cappuccino and breakfast croissants!

A typical walking friendly city, however, the people are friendly and helpful! Beautiful green Mountain views can been seen while walking. There are restaurants everywhere all offering delicious food, you can’t go wrong! There wonderful things to see within the city, like museum's, parks, churches, street art, monuments and a china town, but I also would recommend venturing outside of the city to see more of what Costa Rica has to offer! Don’t be afraid to use the taxi system, stick with the red cars and yellow taxi triangle on the door, many of drivers speak English and if they don’t you both make it work. It can be a little pricey but if you plan for it and don’t over use it, it will be helpful. They do prefer to be paid in colones, but I was able to use dollars and colones to pay a few times I rode. If you take a taxi from the airport, your driver may offer their number for you to call them again. This is normal and can also be helpful while you’re there! Enjoy your time!

San José traffic is a hard pull to swallow.
San José traffic is a hard pull to swallow. The volcanos are covered by clouds so you may travel 2-3 hours and see nothing. The white water rafting was the highlight of the trip but not much to do. San Jose is extremely expensive. Prices are comparable to USA expensive resort prices. Ex: $4 for a soda. Also they have taxes for everything and then they ask you for more money. Their tipping is out of control

I’ve visited San Jose Costa Rica many times since the 1970s.
I’ve visited San Jose Costa Rica many times since the 1970s. It’s gotten completely jammed with traffic, but it is a beautiful city with lots to see and admire. My favorite is the old concert hall, which I’m blanking on the name, but it is the only concert hall I believe in the city. Being a city it’s always important to watch your pockets, and this is become a problem, the last couple decades. The people in general are very charming and it is definitely worth a visit.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfasts. Clean room and comfy bed. Great cooling off in courtyard pool. Located near Park and free gallery of Costa Rica art which was really interesting. Away from the busy centre of San Jose but walk there in 30mins. Close to some good restaurants. Taxi to airport around 25 minutes. Taxi to main Tracopa bus station about 10 minutes. Staff organised taxi for us and it arrived with in minutes. High recommend hotel.
I live in Costa Rica and stay at Studio Hotel quite often on trips to San Jose. I have a "favourite room" at the hotel - I requested it once earlier in the year. I didn't request it this time, nevertheless they put me in that room. That kind of attention to detail is why I stay. They are always right on top of it.
Spotlessly clean in all areas. Twin double beds. Locally there are two shopping centres with wide range of eateries. Breakfast was good - buffet style Costa Rican. The staff were helpful with trying to call other locations where we may have left something. Great transit hotel
Great Hotel with super prices! I stayed there a few nights...Payed the same I sometimes do for hostel dorms but had a very good, clean private room. Location is 5 minutes walk from downtown area and the people are nice and helpful
