Located in San Pedro in the San José region, Apartotel Tairona provides accommodations with free WiFi and free private parking. I wasn't expecting much, but being there in person made me want to stay longer than one night. We arrived late at night and the staff were so welcoming. One staff member walked us to our room and showed us how the shower worked. I thought that was helpful, instead of trying to figure it out when I'm half awake in the morning. The place is beautifully decorated and the room was very comfortable. The parking area is within the building and guarded. Although my husband was looking for eggs and sausage in the included breakfast, we were satisfied with what was there. We didn't use the kitchenette in the room, but it was great to know it was available. We would stay here again.
In the Wind Hostel and Guest house is set in the heart of lively, upscale San Pedro and only 1312 feet from the University of Costa Rica and the student nightlife of Calle de la Amargura. Great pancake n fruit breakfast; Josie and staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful with attractions; feels a lot like you would want your own living no room to be.
Hotel Casa echavarria is located in San José, 2.2 mi from Pre-Colombian Gold Museum. Guests can enjoy the on-site snack bar. This guest house features both free WiFi and free private parking. It's a classy, beautiful hotel, and I feel for the $ it can't be beat! I have stayed there 3 times in the past 6 months and plan to return for a longer stay in 5 months. I love San Jose! and find the bus ride downtown interesting as well as cheap. The staff is exceptionally nice, and helpful, the hotel is very clean and the decor is artsy. I use the kitchen and also really like that there is a vegetable market very close by. Staying there works well for me, Communicating with the hotel is welcome, easy and pleasant.
Located 1.9 mi from the San José City Center and 7 minutes’ drive from the National Museum, the Boutique Hotel Jade features free Wi-Fi, complimentary buffet breakfast and a swimming pool. We needed help with medical transports and emergencies and they couldn’t have been more helpful.
Located in San José, 1.8 miles from National Theatre of Costa Rica, DSCVR - The Garden San José has accommodations with a shared lounge, free private parking, a garden and barbecue facilities. I was looking for a place to stay that had access to a kitchen and initially made reservations at two different places. One was $900. for 6 days and the other was $600. I read reviews stating that the $600. place had no pots, pans or silverware and the $900. one was not near where I wanted to be. Then I found The Garden, which not only was 1/2 the price of the $600. place, it has a fully equipped kitchen AND a group of fascinating people who run the hostel as well as an equally fascinating group of people (of all ages) staying there. There is no pool but there is a simple, calming, precious courtyard garden, a semi open porch, living room (with a TV with Netflix, CNN, etc.) and dining area. The beds are very comfortable and you can choose from a dormitory style room or private bedroom. I had never stayed at a hostel before and in doing so at the Garden, I realized that the atmosphere is one I much prefer over the anonymity of a typical upscale hotel. Here, the staff of The Garden were friendly and exceptionally helpful, offering their knowledge and connections. The continental breakfast includes delicious fresh fruits, eggs and toast made the way you like them. The home itself is very comfortable, with lots of wood, and it's in an excellent location.
San Pedro is one of the tiny towns that skirt San Jose. So a quick Uber or bus ride gets a traveler to downtown or trendy night life or city central or 2/3 km walk if you prefer. Nights are quiet and cool in April and facilities are within easy walking distance. I replaced my glasses in a couple of hours, bought gifts and ate freshly prepared local cuisine at every meal. I recommend taking an Uber to Zapote on Sunday morning for the most amazing farmer’s market and taking a longer trip to visit a coffee plantation for a first hand view of the dedication to sustainable farming and coffee enthusiasm.
