The 2nd largest Czech city, Brno is a centre of Moravian culture, surrounded by lush countryside. The twin spires of the hilltop Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul dominate the neighbouring Bishops Palace, while the nearby square houses the Moravia Museum and Reduta Theatre, both the oldest in the country.
Beneath the square is Brno Underground, a maze of medieval tunnels and cellars that once housed wine produced in the surrounding region. There is an annual wine festival here, but the largest event is the Ignis Brunensis fireworks competition by Brno Lake to the north-west, lined by trees that hide Veveří Castle.
A less grand castle - Špilberk - sits on a hill in the city centre. At its feet is Masaryk University, the 2nd largest in the Czech Republic. The city’s Mendel University is named after the genetics founder who was abbot of St Thomas’ Abbey, where a museum commemorates his work.
The nearby Brno Exhibition Centre is of functionalist design, but the most important example of this architectural style is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Villa Tugendhat. On the opposite side of the city is Masaryk Circuit, home of the Czech MotoGP.
The Brno accommodation on Booking.com includes cheap hostels near the train station, guest houses near Freedom Square and hotels by Brno-Tuřany Airport.
Its little bit weird. Its like weekend place for locals and German pensioners. If you dont like drinking beer there is nothing else that you can do (exception "Veveri hrad"- nice place).
All over the destination we couldnt see that someone drinks coffee or juice.. too many drunkards in the streets.. this destination is not worth the long yourney (but orea resort corrects that feeling!)

Brno is my favorite city in Czech Republic.
Brno is my favorite city in Czech Republic. Brno has the best tram network I have ever met (but I've met a lot). Super local breweries in the center as well as in the outskirt. Beautiful historical city center with good restaurants and pubs.

Beautiful compact city with a lot to see + nice restaurants, cafes and coctail bars
BIG BONUS: The lake area with all sorts of sporting options or just for a day enjoying the sun and some swimming.
Nice price level in general - much more affordable than e.g. Prague

I bought a Brnopass, so it was cheaper to see the local sights. The most interesting sights - churches, the ossium, the old town hall, the cellar of the new town hall, Špilberk Castle, the crypt of the Capuchins, the zoo - could be visited in 1-1.5 days. By public transport, you can reach the Punkva cave, with its beautiful stalactites, within an hour. There are also good hiking trails.
Public transport in the city is good and it is easy to buy tickets with a credit card.

Brno is lovely!
Brno is lovely! We stayed at the Barcelo which was a fantastic hotel.
For fine evening dining, we would recommend the Grandezza Restaurant which was exceptional. Wonderful fish and muscles.
For breakfast, we would recommend Bavard cafe where you can get an exceptional breakfast.
If you need a cheeky kebab, then Kebab Šach was great.
For antiques and jewelry shopping, we visited Patrice Antiques (patrice-antiques.cz) and found a gorgeous vintage ring for my wife's birthday.
For culture, we would recommend The Museum of Romani Culture (rommuz.cz) which was very powerful, well-curated, and in-depth. They provide English hand-held audio guides if you don't speak Czech too. The cafe there is nice as well.
To get around, take the trams! (They are cheaper and cleaner than Prague's)
First time I was ever in the Czech Republic, I'm from Hungary. The hotel can be reached by foot in an hour from the main train station, and meanwhile you can have a little sightseeing around the city. The panorama of the hotel is impressive. The staff was very friendly, they helped me in every case. Breakfasts were marvelous, always something fresh and delicious. Wellnes services were more than enough. The rooms were really clean, had a rustic like style, and plenty of space. Definitely I would visit here again, if I come by.
A beautiful grand hotel with the best of 19th century beauty and modern and comfortable conveniences. We stayed in a renovated room on the 3rd floor, it was very tastefully done. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with quality products and good variety. If you need non-dairy milk, just ask the staff.
Hotel is about 15 mins from the city centre, reachable by walk. Rooms are quite spacey and bed comfortably hard for sleeping. Wonderful thing about this hotel is the spa - great Finnish sauna and whirlpool on the rooftop are just perfect thing to use after a long day.
