We enjoyed our stay in Aachen. We spent one night there on our way to Romania. The host provided us the necessary details voor de check-in en de parking. The room was big en cozy, the area where the hotel is situated is very nice, there a supermarket close by. It was perfect for our family of 5. We will definitely come back in de future!

For a 'premium' room it was modest in size, but very well designed and renovated to a high standard. The breakfast was first class, with a great, 5th floor view, towards the old city. We enjoyed the sauna after a long day travelling. The hotel is well located for walking into the city and to the Carols Therme.

FAQs about hotels in Aachen

Charming Emperor’s Residence

A political center and favorite residence of Charlemagne, Aachen is located in Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia region. A spa town since Ancient Roman times, it has some of the hottest springs in Europe. Its Old Town keeps important architectonic jewels, like the Cathedral ordered by Charlemagne in 786, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

With a unique mix of styles, the Cathedral is the final resting place for Charlemagne’s remains, and served as coronation church for 30 German kings and 12 queens. Guesthouses and hotels in Aachen’s historic center are a romantic way of enjoying the city.

The RWTH University is one of the country’s "Universities of Excellence", part of the technologic profile of a city that is regarded as one of the most innovative in Germany. In fact, a large number of Aachen hotels have congress facilities.

It is located 40 miles from Cologne and 24 miles from Maastricht/Aachen Airport. Connections to major European capitals are available from the central train station, while several hotels nearby will help you to avoid the last-minute rush.

Whether you want to relax in the baths or come to town for a lecture, don’t miss the Aachen accommodations deals available on Booking.com!

A city packed with history and a gem under the skin of architecture of the 50s (the city was heavily bombed as one of the first captured by the Allies in WW II; so, just in case my British and American friends are missing the pretty architecture Aachen was once known for). Of course the Cathedral and the Palatine Chapel are not to be missed, but there is as well a wonderful Old Master collection at the Suermondt Museum. An inspired special exhibition about "Medieval Art in Motion," while I was there, but the whole permanent collection had a lot to discover. All well and very engagingly presented! And, in comparison to Maastricht or Cologne the room fares are a steal.

Aachen is a beautiful city with a long and interesting history. We appreciated the magnificence of the city more when it wasn't packed with tourists crowding into the extensive Christmas Markets. We tried to see Charlemagne's treasury on an afternoon when the entrance was free -- but we were told it was not free. Also, the opening was delayed from 1pm to 3pm (due to staff illness), so there was an only a 2 hour window for viewing. Still, it is quite a city and worth your while visiting.

Aachen is a lovely city with plenty of sights to see both within and in the neighbouring areas. A trip to the nearby Kupferstadt Stolberg (Kupferstadt = copper town) and it's castle, with multilingual displays, would be a good addition to many a sightseeing list. Be sure to locate the van den Daele Cafe to experience the wonderful cakes (and they do a decent breakfast and other meals, too - consider booking in advance). The historically-minded may find Aachen's Roman ruins and connection to Charlemagne interesting (enjoy spotting the figures on buildings and symbols in the pavements). More recently in history there are several areas outside the city where remnants of the Westwall (Siegfried Line) can be found. During Christmas Aachen has an excellent Wiehnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market), with stalls in several locations.

Aachen exceeded our expectations.

Aachen exceeded our expectations. The city feels magical with beautiful store fronts, enticing venues for meals, desserts and drinks. It has a walkability that makes its fun and easily negotiable. Aachen was recommended to us by a good friend. We will, in turn, recommend it to anyone looking for a beautifully characteristic German destination.

We love the architectural sights so enjoyed walking around the city. Unfortunately we picked a Sunday for sight seeing which we have found in most European cities not to be a good idea as most venues are close while the ones open do have an entrance fee. We definitely will go back but the stay closer to the city center as a stop on the way to Cologne. I think the experience on a Saturday would be considerably different to what we experienced on a Sunday. The City Square is always worth a visit with many small coffee shops, bakeries and restaurants and many of the key attractions are walking distance from the Main Square. The christmas market is planned for the next visit.
