Obviously, Dortmund is known for BVB (the football team)...
Obviously, Dortmund is known for BVB (the football team) which is why I regularly travel to it every year! It may not be steeped in history or the most glamorous city (largely thanks to the War), but I really enjoy it always. People are super friendly, there are plenty of great shops, nice regional food, good cafés & bars, markets on a Saturday, and of course great football! It's easily accessible by train as well as car, and a really nice weekend stay. Or longer if you plan to see more German cities too. Like a lot of continental Europe, you get nice weather into autumn but it can be colder and rainy in winter and spring. But that is all part of the charm in the Rührpott! We did not go sightseeing, were there for a wedding and I want to give a shout out to Wesley who worked at front desk, he was our savior, we arrived at the hotel by Taxi and we thought as everywhere else they accept card but the driver did not accept card and would not talk English, my husband offered him $40, our fair was only 9 euros. One of the most beautiful cities I've seen, a lot bigger than I expected. Love the sights of Signal Iduna Park, U tower, Christmas market, the big mall galerie, the arhitecture, the streets and the buildings, people were pleasant and helped every time I needed some help. We came for the Klassiker BVB v Bayern. It was an amazing experience. We flew into Cologne (After 6 hour flight delay and got train to Dortmund. I can't believe that German train service renowned for punklichkeit is now worse than UK! UBahn was excellent. On Sunday we enjoyed the medieval market and a very good breakfast before getting another late train back to Cologne. I would have liked to have had more time to see more of Dortmund, but DB and Ryanair had other ideas.ZacUnited Kingdom
