Las Terrenas is one of the nicest places in the country if you want authenticity and a smaller scale. The town itself is a little crowded, but lively and fun. There are good beaches around and many small boutique hotels. It is not at all like Punta Cana with its big all-inclusive resorts.
The road trip to and throughout Samana was exhilarating. The south side of Las Terrenas itself was loud and dirty (motor bikes, music, cigarette smoke, garbage, stray dogs, and litter). If youre looking for a peaceful, clean area with remote beaches then I recommend Playa Coson. You can easily drive (or shuttle) in to LT for a meal or excursion.
If you knew Las Terrenas 20 years ago, you’ll probably have a biiiiig choc. Too many apartment blocs and concrete. Some nice surprises like the recent make over of the Afreeka hotel that offers very good quality for ok prices. Try get around a bit, don’t stay at one beach. There are many different beaches for different tastes. Playa Bonita with the cool Moustique Bar and fashionable Surfers is a nice change to Terrenas Beach or Balenas Beach. Playa Punto Popy is much nicer and cleaner than before, Playa Portillo is but quite crowded and especially popular with locals at the we. If you have transportation Playa Coson is an absolute must!
Playa Bonita was nice. Playa Coson is a gem yet undiscovered. Playa Ballena is nice yet not as nice as Bonita or Coson. Alisei is a good hotel; very accommodating; Celia the bartender is the BEST. Forgot my phone at the club Babylon; called my number; Mauro the owner answered; he would wait until I arrived to retrieval; 👍🙏. Cayuko restaurant in playa Bonita; excellent. I left a tip when the bill came. The waiter came out to the beach to give me my change. I thanked him and advised that the difference left was his tip. I appreciated that he didn’t assume; although I thought it was abvious.
I loved Las Terrenas and have already booked my trip back. The beaches are great, lots of restaurants to choose from, night life is fantastic. Very safe for single travellers. Not to big of a town but perfect.
The location was excellent, beautiful beach in Punta Poppy. The hotel is super cosy, the pool area is excellent and the gardens and Arican-like individual buildings are really cosy. Each building has 2 floors, the top one with an extra bed, though somehow suffocating as the roof up there is low and other than a bed is totally bare, so you just see a low white roof and white walls. Ground floor is much nicer and with tasteful decoration. The bar outside is very nicely decorated too, and it holds some of the best dancing parties we attended in the whole of DR (and we've travelled the country!) Also, the bar across the streets, open to the beach, is great, very peaceful to sit out there (beware! it operated separately from the hotel and you risk being "expelled" by staff if you just sit without buying a drink. Really, depends who is on duty and it might be your lucky day. Great location for day trips to El Limon or Cayo Levantado. Also, the best paved walking strip along the beach that we have seen in the whole of DR, great for jogging, or walking in a really relaxed setting. ADRIAN at reception was most helpful, a vibrant, full of life guy, totally helpful and welcoming! BEWARE OF THE MOSQUITOS!! Best place in DR for them to eat you alive, worst place for you to run from them
Las Terrenas
The beach is superb, probably one of the most beautiful beaches in Dominican Republic. The pool is also very large, with nice seating around. Room was big, clean and with a balcony. We were afraid of the loud music in the evenings, as some people wrote in reviews, but in our room, we did not hear anything, it was perfectly fine. The food in buffet was good, no complaints. You always find something for your taste. The staff were polite and helpful. Overall, it is very nice but there is some room for improvement.
Las Terrenas
The hacienda is just beautiful, located in a calm part of Las Terrenas (5 mins to the beach by car), nicely equipped and very well maintained. The absolute highlight, though, was the staff, everyone is smiling at you, breakfasts were delicious, and the host Valerio gave us many helpful tips for what to do (not only in the Samaná peninsula but also in other parts of the island) and even helped us organize a tour to the Los Haitises national park and Cayo Levantado. Grazie mille, Valerio!
Las Terrenas
perfect location! less than 5 minutes waking to the beach, close to everything you need and very safe. the apartment is new, large and nicely decorated, the bed is very comfortable, there is a bidet and warm water and a very good Italian restaurant. but the best thing about this place is the kindness and availability of the owner, which I am truly grateful for all the help. absolutely recommend to everyone! (also incredible deal for quality/prices in las Terrenas)
Las Terrenas
It was the best accomodation experience we had in our month int he dominican republic. It was better than expected. Absolute paradise in the middle of the junge. Great design in alignment with nature. Beautiful pool and scenery, friendly and helpful staff, even had a great chat with the owners. The food in the restaurant was amazing as well! The view from our room was breathtaking. Cant recommend it any more!
The owners took really good care of us and were very helpful with everything we needed. Everything is within walking distance. The bungalows are all new and very clean. The area is super safe and their gardens are inviting for some relaxing days. If we ever come back to las terrenas, we will surely book it again. We really enjoyed our stay, thank you very much!!
