Santa Lucia House - Forum is located in central Cuenca, Ecuador. The property has free WiFi access and massage services. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel as well as in Cuenca, that's why we extended our stay there. First of all we thank the hotel for early check-in. We could get the room even free already at 7 o'clock in the morning after exhausting 14-hours bus trip. All the time we felt like at home but some centuries ago - so authentic looks the hotel, but nevertheless with all modern facilities! Here we celebrated New Year, the hotel was almost full all the time. The location is wonderful for tourism - just in the middle of the Old Town, so you can left and come back any time during sightseeing. In the morning they serve delicious breakfast with fruits, granola, yogurt, eggs cooked your wish and fresh bread, coffee or tea.

Tacky red bus tour around the town with a trip to the top of a nearby hill with a church is a must. For $8 you get a 1 tour with English and Spanish commentary, at the top of the hill you can try a local hot drink, which is delicious. Just walking around the town is enjoyable, plenty of little shops to discover, panaderias to have a coffee and pastry and, of course, lots of churches to have a look at. I enjoyed the hat museum on Calle Largo and the coffee chain called 'Melatte'. Walking around is the best as there is a lot of traffic around. Sitting by the river and watching people come and go is also a good way to see a bit of the life of the city and relax.
Cuenca is a beautiful city; it is just unfortunate that we arrived as the virus was closing the city down. Lots of reasonable restaurants' Easy to get around the city; pretty riverside walks. Great churches.
There is much to see in this city. One week or more is recommended. It is a very clean and safe walking city. Every person we met went out of our way to help is - it is a very caring, honest, religious culture here. It was nice staying downtown in the historic district because we were in close walking distance to everything, but it was not necessary. A cab costs around $1.50, so staying on the outskirts is an option. I found the shopping there to be limited, so would advise going on day trips to outlying towns where they actually make the products.
Cuenca is a great city for tourism as it is very rich in culture, history, and food. The weather is very nice although it rains sometimes. It is a great city for walking, specially around its Historic Center. The locals are very friendly and there are many expats and foreigners all around. It is cumbersome to park your car in this city center because of the paying system implemented (you need to buy some parking "cards" and they are good for a maximum of 2 hours of parking, then you need to switch them and leave them inside your car but visible to the outside). If you want a more comfortable parking experience, you could opt for private parking which is around $1.40 per hour during the day, and around $6-$9 for the whole night (from 8pm to 8am), depending on where you park. Also, most private parking lots close at 10pm, so your car stays locked until the next morning. Outside the center the parking experience gets better. Also, taxis are cheap if you don't bring your own car. Some great activities to do in Cuenca are: - Visiting the Cathedral - Visiting the Museums - Eating at iconic Restaurants like "El Mercado" and "Tiesto's" (great eating experience at Tiesto's as they 'teach' you how to eat the different dishes they serve you in one sitting). - Go sightseeing at "El Mirador de Turi", where you can see the whole city from the top of a hill and also do activities like "Canopy" and "The Swing". - Buying hats, handcrafts, and handmade clothes. - Walking along the river that runs across the city. Outside, but near Cuenca: - Visiting "El Cajas" National Park and do activities like fishing. - Going to the Thermal SPAs like "NOVAQUA" and "Piedra the Agua" located in Baños de Cuenca. We loved our trip there and would gladly go back again!
Cuenca is a city of half a million people, so there is a lot going on all the time. It provides a charming mix of modern (Mall del Rio) and colonial (Old Town). There is a wide variety of hostels to choose from and the restaurants are very good. We always enjoy our trips to Cuenca.
I like the hotel and the location near downtown, the staff were really nice and helpful. The town seems quite pleasant with a lot of restaurant and colonial places to visit. The weather was fantastic in February. The main disappointment was going to the Pumapungo Museum and it was closed for maintenance. Nevertheless walking through the street and parks was a wonderful experience
Very clean and modern. Beautiful furnishings. Staff especially Diego was very helpful and accommodating. Breakfast buffet was fantastic very healthy with lots of fruit and options. Hotel was very close to downtown and restaurants and running track and parks.
