Altea is absolutely stunning. A lot of work has been done to support the seafront and they have done a magnificent job. The seafront is full of lovely bars and restaurants. The old town is whitewashed, rambling and vibrant. The shopping is great both mainstream and artisan. Altea is truly the jewel in the Costa Blanca’s crown.
Beautiful town, with whitewashed houses, winding streets to explore, lots of nice places to stop for drinks and food, artisan shops and a lovely sea side esplanade to stroll along with more nice eating places. Easy access to public transport to go further afield if you want a change.
Great place and now the Promenade has been totally renewed it is wonderful and lovely for walking on. Has a great church and so picturesque and well worth the walk up to it with all the quaint streets of the Old Town. Brilliant cafes and Bars and a very good choice and all tastes carered for.
Nothing wrong with Altea, it was lovely. Approximately 10 - 15 minutes walk from the hotel. No pavement for approximately half of that time which we considered quite dangerous as it was a very busy road. We chose Cap Negret Hotel on recommendation from people who have stayed there previously. This year they along with ourselves were very disappointed, this was due mainly to overcrowding in areas such as dining, entertainment and inside bar area.
Best: The combination of a lovely old town with beautiful old houses higher up and on the top of the town - and a newer modern town with restaurants of different styles and specialities and a lovely sea side with nice views and good possibilities for swimming and sun bathing in the summer. The town was also at the end of an enormous development of the sea side area worth approx. 4 billion Euros. Our favorite restaurant this time turned out to be Buena Vista at the sea side with a nice variety of good food and very good service people. We were also very happy with our choice of breakfast restaurant (English breakfast) on the other side of the town run by a French couple. It is also a very good area in the middle of the town near the town centre with a good shopping area - and with smaller restaurants and drop-in places.
Loved the town (historic, downtown, amenities near the beach). Not so crazy about the beaches which were visually very appealing, but nearly impossible to walk on due to the fact that they are not sandy, rather there are nice looking white rocks that make it very painful to walk on them without shoes, sandals, or wet shoes with rubber soles. The rocks are of a variety of sizes and it's difficult to walk, or even getting into and out of the water. It's painful to watch people to try to go into the water for a swim and watch their faces expressions. The promenade is the best way to enjoy the beautiful beach.
