Ardales is this perfect summary of all the things you think of when you create a picture of "Spanish countryside mountain village". Visit the "El Falco" restaurant - rightly recommended by our hosts, and definitely worth a visit. And make sure to talk to the people who live here, everyone we met were very friendly, from the older guys sitting in the town square at night, to the younger folks walking their kids down the "main street".
Remember one thing, though - this is a mountain-side village. It's HILLY, and not built at a time when people drove around in cars. Driving in the village is interesting, especially if, like us, you drive a big van. Think ahead, expect the unexpected at every corner but above all - take it slow, and stay safe.
We just staid overnight, but I imagine a two-night visit (at least) would be recommended, to be able to visit the beautiful lakes and take a walk along the tracks in the surrounding areas.
