CroatiaHotel is located in the Old Town, very close to the river, with all mayor attractions in a walking distance. Entrance is in fact from the Viktor Street, not Calle del Correos. Daniela checked me in and gave me some info about the hotel and the city. She was very friendly and welcoming. My room was of good size, sparkling clean, well appointed, recently furnished and it had everyrhing I needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was very comfortable, and there was no noise, I slept like a baby. The reception and public spaces were also well kept.

Overall Bilbao is well worth a visit.
Overall Bilbao is well worth a visit. We came to experience the Old Town (Casco Viejo), the Guggenheim Museum and the Basque experience of food and culture. There is an unlimited number of lovely bars offering a very extensive variety of Pintxos (individually sized savoury portions) which can be eaten with your drinks. It is a lovely experience visiting multiple places during the evening.
We purchased the Barik transport card (costing €3 and added €10 credit) and used this on the tram, bus, metro and even the funicular train. It pays for itself very quickly and makes it very convenient not having to buy travel tickets. One card can be tapped a number of times for each person.
We didn't realise when we booked during the last week of August that the Aste Nagusia festival was on. It was later that normal in 2026. There were some benefits such as the fireworks and some free concerts which we attended. The temporary structures erected in the streets and along the river obscure some nice views for first time visitors and the huge number of festival goers can be excessive. If you like drumming and music late into the night then you might like it. The city council does a wonderful job in the morning clearing up the streets after the festivities so it is best not to go out before 9am.

The city is vibrant and energetic, with varied activities, views and foods throughout, with an obvious serious focus on creativity, design, art and architecture. The Guggenheim, Funicular, walks along the river, old and new town, etc. essential to gain an impression of the depth of Bilbao. Old Town is crowded, in parts seedy, typical 2026 over-touristed with attendant inebriated youth, urban marijuana wafting about, etc. Some food very good, many places just ordinary and unremarkable. Best pinxtos were in the Market hall! Better overall food choices in Abando, with less congestion. Bilbao is an essential visit to Basque, Spain, with friendly and engaging local people, an inviting culture, great seafood and wine.

We stayed in Bilbao for 5 nights.
We stayed in Bilbao for 5 nights. For Bilbao specifically, you only need 2-3 full days and there is plenty to see and do and see, but we included day trips to San Sebastián as well as Rioja wine region visiting Laguardia and surrounding vineyards.
Bilbao is easy to walk, but there is public transport too. We grazed around pintxos bars mostly for lunches and dinners.

The old town comes alive sporadically - it can seem somewhat dead during siesta time (like most Spanish towns). But when it comes alive, it's full of atmosphere and buzzes with people, shops, bars, tapas - and is mostly pedestrianised so the labyrinth of narrow streets has character, and is relaxing and pretty. Maybe not quite so pretty as, say, Logrono, but, well, Bilbao's a big town and gets some heavy wear.
One thing to do is to visit the hanging bridge at Bizkaia: look it up - and walk across the top of it. Amazing piece of engineering! The metro gets you there quickly.

We stayed at Goien for a long weekend in Bilbao for my partners birthday, and couldn't recommend it more. The boutique hotel feels really new and clean, with a breakfast great, and overall a lovely feel. The staff were particularly helpful and accommodating (they organised a bottle of champagne for my partners birthday in the room), and the location was perfect, situated within the centre of the old town. We would highly recommend and look forward to hopefully visiting again soon. Thank you Goien for a lovely stay!

Really handy hotel for getting to Bilbao port - 14mls. Secure parking for €17. Approx 15min walk into old town which was beautiful. Restaurant opened at 7.30 and we were first in. We both had steak which was the best for €21 each. Dessert was not worth the €7. Breakfast was €15 each and it was fabulous. Buffet style with everything you could want. Our bedroom was on the 8th floor with a view of the bridge. Bathroom had bath with shower over. They also had a water station on the floor for free refills.

The hotel was right in the middle of the old town of Bilbao. Just outside there were many different bars and shops in every direction, you are spoilt for choice! Our room was clean and comfortable and for a budget room had everything we needed. The staff on reception were friendly and helpful which made our stay much easier. Although we didn’t have breakfast there, we found a great coffee/bakery shop a few doors along.

The staff is extremely nice, each and every one of them. The breakfast is fantastic, with lots of fresh and very good products. The hotel is comfortable and very well decorated. The place is perfectly located, in front of the Guggenheim from where it's easy to walk along the river to the old town. we'll clearly return there when we're back in Bilbao!
