We loved this small hotel. Clean, quiet, comfortable, great views over the countryside. The apartment was spacious, and adequately provisioned for cooking your own meals. The shower was hot, with good water pressure. We found the bed comfortable - but we normally sleep on a firmish mattress. The staff we met were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is continental in style - cereal, boiled eggs, cold meats & cheese, bread for toasting, cereals, yoghurt, croissants, fresh fruit, traditional cake, tea, coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. Tip: Do the online checkin. It is significantly easier and faster than waiting until you arrive. Tip: Park in the free car public car park 150m down the hill.

FAQs about hotels in Basque Country

A Vibrant Land of Gourmet Cuisine, Sandy Beaches and Fascinating Culture

Spanning the French-Spanish border, the beautiful coastal Basque Country lays a lot at your feet: renowned gourmet cuisine, stunning mountainous landscapes and wide, sandy beaches. And not forgetting its stormy history and vibrant cities - they’re a real cherry on top!

Its capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, the 2nd largest in the region and one of the greenest European cities, features a charming town centre with Gothic churches and Renaissance town houses. More contemporary examples of architecture can be found in the region’s biggest city, Bilbao, home to the world-famous symbol and architectural gem of the Guggenheim Museum.

The Basque Country is not all about architecture though. Try the other tourist destinations of Pamplona - with the famous running of the bulls during the San Fermin festival - or San Sebastian, the popular beach resort with a picturesque coastline and great beaches.

Wherever you go, keep in mind (and later in your mouth!) the delicious pintxos, the Basque equivalent of Spanish tapas and wash them down with some local beverages - the unique Sagardoa cider, Txakoli wine or Patxaran, a pink-coloured sloe liquor.

Booking.com offers a wide choice of luxury and boutique hotels, friendly guest houses and comfortable country houses for your Basque Country visit.

I want to write a lot and positively about this hotel. I think that the first impression of San Sebastian very much depends on the place where you stay in this magical city. The hotel is ideal for the best experience. An ancient building with high ceilings, an authentic elevator and crazy parking below sea level (don’t repeat our mistake - parking needs to be booked in advance) Only thanks to the nicest staff at the reception we were lucky to get the last place in the hotel parking. Comfortable beds, small balconies, nice modern bathroom. Before the trip, I read a lot of negative reviews about the hotel restaurant. Lies! Yes, it’s true that the restaurant is tiny, and yes, it’s true that there may not be any free tables. But all this can happen if all the guests come for breakfast at the same time. You can enjoy the morning breeze for 5-10 minutes on the promenade, taking just 10 steps from the restaurant. And tables will appear. The staff constantly replenishes food in the buffet. The croissants at this hotel are divine. The dinner is delicious, there is not a lot of choice, but everything is very high quality. I recommend, as with parking, to book a table for dinner in advance.

Wonderful hotel with brilliant facilities. Parking in the hotel carpark. We had our dogs and there was a dog bed and bowls in our room. The staff are extremely helpful. The bed was really comfortable and there was a fridge in our room. The ambiance was perfect and we had a beautiful city view from our room. There is a dog area outside. San Sebastián is superb with a wonderful beach along the Cantabrian sea. Lots of cafes and bars which are dog friendly. We loved our stay here.

Amazing and very unique city for the picturesque views, city old part, monuments, beaches, port, great food (pintxos), cultural events, etc. From the city (mount Urgull, walk to Pasaia) or accessible by bus/train nearby (Zumaia, Getaria, Hondarribia, etc.) you have beautiful coastal walks and other beaches to explore.

A lovely small 'city' not too overwhelming, beautifully located in a nice sheltered bay protected from the winds, with a long, pristine sandy beach perfect for sun-tanning on. The sea is crystal clear, the perfect temperature and has just the right amount of waves for both surfing and safe-swimming in. All the necessary beachside amenities are available, and one can take a nice long stroll from the 'city' end with all the restaurants etc, to the lagoon/golf-course end ~ and if you're up to the hike, take in the lovely climb up the stairs to the headland, where you can enjoy stunning vistas across the bay and down to the ruins on the cliffside below.

Bermeo is essentially a fishing village, with all the pros and cons that entails. It never gets overly crowded, even in summer, and its narrow, charming streets offer a glimpse into the Basque way of life. Bars and cafés are everywhere—distinctive spots rather than the usual chains—while classic restaurants are virtually non-existent. The nearest beach is also simple: accessible via a steep slope, it is completely undeveloped—essentially just a small cove surrounded by rocks. While the steep path down might be a bit of a challenge, it is not a major issue. If you are looking for a larger, more beautiful beach, head over to Mundaka and take a boat across to the opposite shore; the sandbars there allow you to walk far out into the sea, offering a stunning view.

We loved the Cristobal Balenciega museum, and the Txakoli vineyards outside of town, but the town itself is small with way too many visitors in August. Everything was a challenge, from parking, to finding a seat at a restaurant, to walking down one of the 2 main streets in town. Packed with people! I imagine it might be nice to visit when it’s not peak summer tourism time, but we won’t be returning
