I started my Camino in Ferrol and spent two days there.
I started my Camino in Ferrol and spent two days there. It’s a lovely city with beautiful architecture, a working port and a relaxed atmosphere. The restaurants serve delicious food, and there are lovely beaches just outside the city. It was a great place to begin the Camino and spend a couple of days exploring.

The Gran Hotel de Ferrol was a nice hotel with on site...
The Gran Hotel de Ferrol was a nice hotel with on site parking and a comfortable stop over. Ferrol itself, is an old town with a large Naval/training base. The Muelle de Curuxeiras is a nice small harbour, with a few bars and tapas. It is also the start of the Camino Ingles only 113km to Santiago.
From the Hotel to the Harbour is a 2.5 km walk, (35 mins) down the 'straight' streets, with a few shops and bars, a number of closures and spread out.
Ferrol in summary is an old town, tired in places and in need of investment.

We loved Ferrol - it is a small quiet city with lovely...
We loved Ferrol - it is a small quiet city with lovely plazas and gardens and beautiful architecture. The grid design makes it easy to navigate and there were plenty of good places to eat the delicious local food. We walked everywhere and didn’t need transport.

Ferrol is a town with lots of history, and a great maritime pedigree. It seems to have plenty of decent places to eat (albeit not the best value for money), and isn't without character. However the town feels very empty and lifeless. It doesn't feel like anything happens here. It's good as a starting place for el Camino Ingles, but probably doesn't needed more than one night's stay.

A small town of about 65,000 with a long history of being a...
A small town of about 65,000 with a long history of being a major naval and ship building center. It is coastal with many beautiful estuaries. The weather is wonderful with summer highs of mid to upper 70s often with a breeze and winters with day time temps of mid 40s to low 50s. Winter is also the rainy season with rain 10-15 days a month. Add in a breeze off the water and one can experience wet, windy cold winter weather. There are several churches and other structures from the 1700s. Farroll is famous for their glass fronted "galleries" apartment buildings copied after the glass galleries of old pirate ships. Complete with intricate wrought iron railings, these glass fronted buildings are works of art and line both sides of the several pedestrian streets in the town center. During the two weeks we stayed in Ferroll we fell in love with the town and its people and bought a holiday house! Everyone we met was super friendly and helpful. The town is safe to walk in even late at night , is blessed with many parks and dozens of sidewalk cafes. Most visitors come for the wonderful beaches but we are not beach people.

Lovely town to really get the Spanish vibe. Very few tourists in the area.
Have been to Ferrol on a couple of occasions and really like it. People are very helpful. Have small speciality shops and tons of cafes and restaurants.
It’s a very easy place to walk around with a beautiful boardwalk down by the beach. Lots supermarkets. The apartment we booked was lovely and great kitchen for cooking. Easy to get buses to other communities. Train and bus station were within walking distance. Weather was really nice for April month.

Our room was a good size and spotlessly clean. The beds were very comfortable.
Although the hotel is on afarily busy road, the double/ triple glazing worked well. We could hear no rodd noise and slept well after our journey from England. prior to starting our Camino. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again.

Loved this very beautiful hotel. Very spacious room double door windows. Bath and shower, kettle, fridge. Really enjoyed our stay on the corner near bars and restaurants. Steps away from the Camino. We found the start the day before and walked back to our hotel then set off from there in the morning

Great location to start the Camino Ingles, close to everything in Ferrol. However when you're on the streetside you won't get a lot of sleep because of the noise outside. The Windows are very very thin.
