It is small enough to be able to walk everywhere and benefits from excellent walks in the country which are well signposted. My favourite bar/restaurant is HerVi's which has a friendly staff, good and plentiful food, excellent tapas and a waitress who speaks very good English
We had passed through Huesca many times with out stopping. The old town has some lovely old buildings and there are wonderful view of thew Pyrenees. We had some excellent good value food at Comomelocomo. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The house wine from Somontano was excellent
Don't get confused like we did. Huesca is also the name of a province in Spain and so we thought we were going to be staying somewhere beautiful, when in fact we ended up in Huesca town!! Not quite what we had expected! Completely our fault, but be careful to check that the images you find on Google are actually of the place you want to go to and aren't just beautiful photos from a variety of places within the province of Huesca.
It is a lovely town with good amenities. The old town, eg the cathedral and the town museum, are well worth a visit. It has plenty of parks, including an award winning one. CDAC is an exhibition space a short drive out of town, It currently has a football exhibition. The surrounding area has plenty to see, including the Mallos de Riglos, which is a very interesting area, for those interested in rocks and climbing. There is also the Sierra de Guara, with places like Rodellas, famous for caving. but with several walks.
I absolutely love Huesca, it’s such a beautiful little city with lots of excellent restaurants and tapas bars to frequent. I love being there for the fiestas when the city comes alive. There’s local swimming pools and the mountains are close by to visit the rivers and lagoons, great for active couples or family’s who like to visit real Spain.
Huesca is not as pretty as as many of the other towns we visited in Northern Spain ... but the surrounding Aragon region is very beautiful and unspoiled. Skirting the southern Pyrenees and the expanse of the Ebro plain, it is a place of stunning castles and magnificent panoramas.
