Surrounded by farmland, this characteristic Galician house is located on the Camino de Santiago. It offers modern apartments with free Wi-Fi. The center of Santiago is less than 6.2 mi away. Specially chosen a place to stay far from the city. We are happy that we were not mistaken with our decision. Quiet and original place, lovely friendly staff. A bit uncomfortable pillows, but that's a matter of taste.
Located in Lavacolla, 21 miles from Oca, EL RETIRO DE LA LUNA has a bar and free WiFi. Some units have a dining area and/or a patio. Guests can also relax in the garden or on the shared lounge area. Excellent! The place is close to the airport, there’s a bus to the airport, less than 5min drive. Super convenient! The owner and her dog ( Mercedes and Luna) are friendly and quickly made me feel at home! We are the only guest on this day, so luckily the “shared bathroom” is our own. The bathroom is spotlessly clean. It is cold and humid in Santiago in winter, but the fireplace in the living room made the whole house dry and warm. I lost my jacket at the airport when I leave. I contacted Mercedes later and she went to the lost and found office for me and helped me in sending it back to my country! Many thanks to Mercedes! I will definitely come back!
In Lavacolla you need to remember this is the gateway to rural Spain and the last leg of the Camino de Santiago. From the Ruta Jacobea you can take yourself on nature walks to nearby villages and take in the views.
I stayed here as I was flying out of the nearby airport the following day and it was close. It also had a bus stop at which the airport bus stopped just outside the door. However, the one thing a long distance walker needs is hot water after a long day and there was none so I was greatly disappointed. For this reason I would find it hard to recommend this hotel.
Lavacolla is not an exciting little town, but it has the historical interest of its association with the Camino de Santiago and is an ideal stopping off point for the last 11 km into Santiago. It is also right by the airport and that is a great advantage. There is a supermarket and a couple of bars. If you want a more upscale meal you can go to the restaurant in Ruta Jacobea, which is excellent.
This was our last night of walking the El Camino before entering Santiago de Compostella and the location was just the right distance to let us enjoy the morning, arrive, and attend the Pilgrim Mass in the cathedral.
Hosts were extremely kind and accommodating. We got lost walking to the hotel from the Camino and they picked us up in their car. Served wine and cheese by the fire. Welcomed each guest in the same way. Nice breakfast in the morning. Wished I could have stayed longer.
Service at the hotel was great and we got a lift to the airport at 5am in the morning from a very friendly receptionist. Location is good as it only took 5 mins to get to the airport. There is a decent place to eat at the hotel.
This is a two bedroom apartment on the Camino in Lavacolla. I shared it with a German couple for one night. Shared bathroom and kitchen. A clean comfortable place on the Camino. Close to local restaurants.
Our hotel on the Camino de Santiago was canceled, so we had to walk another 9km and come here. The hotel was unimpressive, but lively atmosphere with pilgrims. There was a laundry machine in the lobby!
The staff met me near the bus stop at midnight to show me where the hotel was. It was just down the hill from the bus stop but didn’t know where at that late in the night. She was a a life saver.
Beautiful quaint hotel less than 10 kilometers from Santiago.
Old style hotel but clean and friendly staff
