Centre is compact and easily walkable, with boat trips from the promenade. There is a bus tour that helps you orient yourself, and three large beaches, plus churches, a martime museum, an art gallery and some traditional restaurants. A decent venue for a short break.

Love the Basque Country and whilst Santander was great and has some good beaches & tourist attractions, personally I prefer San Sebastián.
That being said my wife and I had a lovely time there, if someone said they were going to have a few days in Santander, I’d say great, that’s about the right amount of time. It has a lovely cathedral, some lovely churches, a few museums, galleries, plenty of pinxtos bars, great food, nice beaches.
What’s not to like, but I think a few days there is plenty.
Furthermore, I would suggest to them to stay at the Sol Boutique Hotel - we did and if we went back to Santander, would 100% return to the same hotel.

Very beautiful city by the sea.
Very beautiful city by the sea. Full of life and interesting architecture. Friendly people, loads of great places to eat. Definitely recommend taking the ferry to Somo and exploring the beach. Centro Botin is a stunning art gallery designed by Renzo Piano and had great exhibitions when we were there.
We have stayed in Hotel Bahia a few times and always book any time we travel to Santander. Clean and comfortable bedroom with fantastic views over the bay. Polite, friendly and professional reception staff. Bar staff gave excellent drinks service. Lovely public areas. Hotel is located across from ferry terminal and within a few minutes walk of city centre. The Sardinero Beach area is a 30 minute walk along a beautiful promenade. There are plenty of buses if you dont want to walk. We will book Hotel Bahia the next time we travel to Santander.
We loved just about everything in Hotel Chiqui. The communication ahead of our visit, the attention to detail and facilitation of all staff from check in to check out especially Cristina and Ishmael was absolutely praiseworthy. I’m a regular visitor to Santander and to Chiqui hotel but my friends will now be regular visitors in-the future🙏
Couldn’t stay anywhere else in Santander! Well done to staff and management for ensuring we had a wonderful vacation.
Our room was clean, comfortable, and well decorated. The bathroom was large and roomy with a walk-in shower. The hotel staff were very welcoming and helpfully guided us on things to do and see in Santander. The hotel's location was excellent with beaches, bars and restaurants practically on the door-step. The Sandiero beaches were delightful. Thoroughly recommend staying at this hotel.
A spotlessly clean hotel in an excellent location near the beach, restaurants, and bars.
A brilliant, easy to operate shower and bottled water provided in the rooms. Helpful, smartly dressed, and polite staff.
Lovely little boutique hotel in convenient location near the beach and city centre. Very clean & quiet. Friendly & very helpful staff with a great breakfast. Would stay again!
