We booked this hotel as it was one of the only hotels in town with a direct view on the sea. We stayed in Room 503 which was well sized and had a balcony which the hotel assigned us on request. The room had the most amazing view over Playa del Sardinero, and every morning we woke up with a great view of the sea, town and blue sky. The room had an almost 360 degree view over the sea. There was a minibar with beer, soft drinks and snacks. The hotel was well equipped with a small gym and a restaurant/bar/cafe which served tapas and drinks. We ate a great spanish omelette from the restaurant. The breakfast had a classic hotel selection of food, with a reasonably varied options. There was plant based vegan milk. The location is great if you want to be near to Sardinero, Magdalena beach and is just a short walk to Palacio de la Magdalena. The hotel is around 20 minute walk to the town, which is a nice walk along the sea front, but there are also public buses and city bikes (2.50 €) right outside the hotel. There is a great hiking trail which leaves from Sardinero and goes along the north coast of the peninsula to Playa La Maruca and even beyond.

The hotel was in a central location, good for walking around the city centre and along the waterfront. Parking was a little distant but not unreasonably so. Our room was fantastic - very modern, large, excellent bathroom, with many conveniences. Breakfast was also very good. The staff we met were friendly and helpful, with clear explanations regarding the car parking, etc.

On the north coast of Spain, the seaside city of Santander is the capital of Cantabria. This beautiful city has it all: from stunning beaches and green gardens to captivating museums and a bustling central area.
Overlooking the lighthouse of the Mauro Island, the popular sandy beach of Sardinero is divided by the gardens of Piquio. These magnificent gardens feature Canarian palm trees, blue eucalyptus and colorful flower beds.
Located on the Magdalena Peninsula, the imposing Palacio de la Magdalena has a neoclassic French and English style. Wander around the green gardens and visit the small zoo, home to penguins, seals and other sea animals.
The Cathedral of Santander is a historic landmark in the center of the city. Built between the 12th and 14th centuries, this historic monument consists of two Gothic churches. The Alameda de Oviedo Boulevard is a shopping paradise where you can find everything you need.
Enjoy a walk on the wide seaside promenade, where you'll find a big selection of cafés and restaurants to choose from. Booking.com offers a variety of hotels, guesthouses and apartments in the area. The international Santander Airport is the only one in Cantabria.
The Cathedral is beautiful, likewise the local market. The harbour is quite spectacular with lovely walks out to the yacht club and beyond. Lots of roadside cafes which are used by locals did find it difficult to find a good restaurant even in the old town but dinner in hotel Bahia is always good. Only spent one day so didn’t get out to the area around the Pousada so still lots to explore. Alta Mira which is a close drive away is brilliant as is the coastline
We stayed the night before our boat sailed back to Plymouth and walked to the bars on the main road to our hotel. All very friendly places with local families meeting and socialising. We didn't really see any of the town, but the locals were all friendly.
This is a delightful seaside city with extensive promenades and elegant "belle epoque" buidings overlooking the bay. There is a good range of restaurants and bars and a large selection of imposing, as well as boutique hotels. There is plenty of parking, mostly underground, but if you are lucky there is parking on both sides of the main promenade. In town there is a selection of shops and stores with a good selection of local produce. If you drive right out through the town there is an impressive view from the end of the peninsula
Our first time in Santander and it won't be the last. We stayed in El Sardinero where there are excellent beaches - not that I am interested in beach holidays, but there is a long promenade which is very pleasant to walk along. In its favour is that it is not a typical resort as in the south of Spain - more genteel and welcoming. Getting about was very easy with a travel card, the bus fares were only about 30c! So it is easy to stay out of the centre and use the frequent buses, using the TUS Santander app.
I enjoyed the waterfront with its ferries, coffee shops and exhibition centre; the market halls including the eastern market/food hall near the waterfront; the back streets inland and uphill with their street escalators and short funicular elevator; and the pedestrianised area around Calle Burgos with its pavement cafés.
The food, the beaches, the weather, El Serbal Restaurant is amazing All the old town is walkable though there are some steep climbs. we went car free as foot passengers on the ferry from Plymouth. Local transport is clean , cheap and frequent if you need to bget around the beaches are outstanding Top tip take the foot ferry across to the spit of land at the harbour entrance The beaches are amazing
