Torla is located at the entrance to the Ordesa Gorge and being a "no through road" practically all of the entertainment is concentrated on accommodating visitors to the magnificent gorge, which has been described as Europes "Grand Canyon". Despite the captive audience, the large number of hotels, restaurants and bars provide good food and accommodation at fairly reasonable rates, including one Michelin starred restaurant. There are also campsites offering chalets. English is not often spoken so it helps if you know a few lines of Spanish to smooth your way when dealing with receptions, ordering food and drink or enquiring which trail to walk. Torla is very busy from late June until mid September. Despite the number of hotels and restaurants, it can become tricky obtaining a room or a table and visiting can be more pleasant in early to mid June when it is both possible to obtain desired accommodation or table and also when it is possible to drive you own vehicle into the Ordesa Gorge parking and visitor centre. From July until mid September, access to the gorge is only possible via foot or coach to minimise traffic and environmental impact of large numbers of visitors.
Torla is a stunning town, highly recommend a visit! We only had 2 nights there and this wasn't enough. We stayed during the summer so it was beautiful but hot, there are a lot of adventure activities on offer, eg rafting, canyoning etc. We hiked in the Ordesa National Park which was lovely though crowded this time of year. This might be common practise for European's but coming from Australia it was quite disappointing that everyone seems to take their dog on holiday with them, that is staying in your hotel, coming to dinner in a restaurant AND walking in the national park which should be unheard of. The national park was very crowded in August and although there appears to be ample parking they block off the parking and road assuming due to the traffic congestion and you have to pay for a bus. Also I'm sure in winter the town parking is sufficient but during Summer it's no where near enough and people are double parked everywhere and it's very difficult to find parking even when you're staying in the town.
Ideally located for hikes in the Ordesa National Park. The bus stop is only 50m from the hotel (you have to use the bus to enter the park, cars are not allowed). Torla is a nice little town with many places to eat.
A sleepy little town of 350, which probably gets inundated with tourists in the high season, Torla is an ewxcellent base from which to do the many hikes in the Ordeasa Valley... If you're planning on lunch or dinner at any of the restaurants, check well ahead of time whether you need to reserve a table as they get booked up fast...
Great location for a walking/sight seeing holiday. Plenty of hotels, restaurants and bars. Weekends are busy, so book ahead. access by road is fairly simple and quite decent roads. If you go July to September you will not be able to drive to Ordessa Canyon, instead you park and ride from Torla. Small charge.
The family owned hotel was cozy, and in a perfect location to do everything. Miguel went beyond in helping us know as much about the region as possible so we could get as much as possible out of our much too short time in Torla. Restaurant suggestions were excellent, sightseeing suggestions were better than we could have found on our own. Can't say enough about this experience. We will be back!
