A really family friendly, good value resort for skiing. Perfect for self catering (not much apres skiing night life), a great range of slopes for beginners to advanced, really easy to get around...we have been 6 years running!
We went for skiing during Christmass to Chamrousse. It was amazing!! Absolutely no crowd, plenty of nice pistes with an amazing view! Chamrousse has 3 main locations for ski lifts nd it is very convenient to go from one location to another. You can do it through many pistes or take a free bus which goes every 20 minutes. It has a lot of winter activities apart of skiing: nordic ski area, luges slopes. It is great for family with kids, because in one part it has a ski Kid park, has also ski park for advanced jumps.
Winter - great for a family skiing holiday - very quiet, very little apres ski, good value for money. Summer - very quiet - good for hiking, downhill biking. Best to self cater - only very basic restaurants
Although quite a small resort we enjoyed the skiing and 1650 has an excellent gondola with rapid transport to the top of the main mountain. We were 3 high level skiers and had just about enough for one week . We hired a car at Grenoble airport and it is only about 1.5 hours into the resort. Everything in 1650 is 2 mins walk away and although very limited we did enjoy the stay and have been to all the main French resorts such as the 3 valleys, Port du Soleil etc.
Laid back friendly ski area. Everything easy to sort out. Ski hire shop was great and stored skis. Slopes for everyone .... our group was a complete mix of abilites including a first timer and a couple of off piste loonies but all came away smiling. No nightlife.
A lovely Alpine resort which is almost perfect for families with young children. As an Apline resort, probably the last ‘affordable’ place. What was really striking was that the majority of people there were French, which (for us) gave the place a very authentic feel. The only down side, as the resort is relatively low altitudes, snow can be unpredictable (although when we were there, this was not an issue). Also, the lower slopes could be fogged up due to clouds, but higher slopes would have very good sun and views.
It was a very budget hotel and not like the hotels we have experienced before. As a ski resort it would have been nice to have tea/cakes in the afternoon, dinner menu was basic, continental breakfast was basic with bread rationed
Chamrousse
Liked the location close to lifts, ski rentals in the same building, great staff at checkin, good restaurant in building, rooms had all basics needed, wonderful views of Grenoble.
The beauty and tranquility of the spot. The apartments are well equipped and we'll organised and spacious. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
