First of all, location, right as you get into town via auto or hiking the Chemin St Jacques. On the River Lot. You are greeted by a smiling hostess who is fluent in English and who has been the proprietor for 7 years. She is the figure-head, Cookie is the true greeter. They adopted him 2 years ago at dog rescue. He takes his role seriously. He is short-haired dark brown & black lab and hunting dog mix, with a right ear that telegraphs his emotions and interests. Nothing is better than when his male human parent shows up after work to take Cookie for a walk.

The Best Western Le Pont d’Or is located on the river near all the sites and still an easy walk to the train station. We had a balcony overlooking the lovely river where we watched ducks swim as the sun glistened off the water. Very romantic. This stunning hotel was the perfect place to rest at the end of our hike from Le Puy (GR65). It was very clean and comfortable. It was also easy to find. The staff were all very kind and graciously spoke English. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a nice place to stay.
