A nice old Warwickshire/Worcestershire border town. A few interesting stand alone shops. Good Waitrose. Pub ‘grub’ available and good. Coughton Court well worth a visit - Gunpowder Plot connections. Near to Shakespeare country and Stratford.
Alcester is a small town so not a great deal to do. There are a number of independent shops and restaurants to choose from . The architecture is worth a trip ranging from medieval where the quality and quantity beats nearby more well known towns through to Georgian and Victorian there is some good walking around local countryside but not too well signposted
The town contaims some fantastic old architecture and also a number of individual-type shops. The only problem we found was getting a pub meal on a Friday night as most of the pubs do not serve food then - how strange!
Alcester is a fantastic market town and really central to visiting many places surrounding the joyful countryside. It has a great history too. The home of Ragley Hall and Estate this includes a historic hall, vast parkland and a wonderful farm shop and restaurant "Hillers " which is superb. The wildlife and many events there are an absolute joy. The high street offers a variety of great shops and restaurants but we ate really well at the Moathouse and the Mill at Arrow both within 1/2 mile. You really cannot go wrong for country pubs and local fayre. Alcester is a welcome hub of quiet, but exciting towns and cities such as Stratford on Avon, Evesham, Broadway, Stow on the wold, Burford,Oxford,Gloucester and Birmingham are all less than an hour away. So many places offering so much variety. We go every few months and the seaons all bring their own delight from outdoor events to Christmas shopping. Air shows to car racing. hot air balloons to just enjoying the great outdoors walking the beautiful countryside.
The food at The Blue Boar, Temple Grafton was the best! Alcester is lovely but raining during our visit unfortunately. Would love to see it on a sunny day. Well situated for travelling to nearby towns. We visited Worcester. Check out the cathedral - it's truly amazing. Coughton Court (Nat. Trust) just a short trip away and Stratford is nearby.
For £45 for two of us it was everything I expected to be honest. The room was very comfortable, clean and decent shower. However there are no tea and coffee making teas in the room and it doesn’t include breakfast. In the morning though tea and coffee is served for free from 6 am whether or not you buy their breakfast. We chose not to eat there in the evening as the menu was not to our taste, but just 10 minutes up the road is The Broom inn which has won Gastro pub of the year, Food was great there. Friday night they have live music where we stayed, which doesn’t particularly bother us but it might some others. All in all you get what you pay for
