Nent Hall offers a charming destination to enjoy a relaxing break. Set in peaceful gardens, this property is only a short drive from the Lake District, Hadrian's Wall and much more. Great breakfast, attentive staff, beautiful, if remote, country location. Very pleasant!

Lowbyer Manor Country House is a 4-star guest house, offering accommodations of exceptional value. In the heart of the Northern Pennines, it is a perfect base for exploring the Lake District. Super friendly and welcoming owners, bright, warm and comfortable room. Lovely, fresh and tasty breakfast Very quiet through the night. Slept very well.

This family-run hotel in tranquil Alston is on the Pennine Way and offers local home-cooked food in an area of outstanding natural beauty that is a paradise for hikers and cyclists. What a lovely couple! Nothing was too much trouble regarding charging our e-bikes (whose batteries can not be removed), an extension lead was found and they were securely stored out of site. Our room was very cute, up on the top floor with a great shower and a comfy bed. Down stairs we ate in the bar, beside a lovely log fire, which was a welcome site having been on our bikes all day. The food was excellent and the gin menu was even better. Breakfast was very tasty, however I would just like to say that the mixed berry fruits on my hot pancakes would have been nicer if they hadn't still been slightly frozen. This is an excellent place to stay, albeit slightly off the C2C route.

In beautiful rural Cumbria, this traditional pub and restaurant dates from 1611. The Angel Inn offers home-cooked meals and real ales, among the charming 17th-century stone buildings of Alston... Very friendly staff, clean room, great value for money. I was cycling the C2C route and this was ideal. Very good breakfast.

'Stokoe Cottage' is set in Alston. Complimentary WiFi is available. The property consists of 1 separate bedroom, 1 bathroom and a living room. The house is superb, the hosts helpful and I thought the provision of dog towels was a very nice touch although I had brought my own. I just wish I could have stayed longer 11/10.

Set in Alston in the Cumbria region, Alston Art Apartments offers accommodations with free WiFi and free private parking. This was our second visit to Sowerberry apartment. Really lovely place to stay, friendly hosts, warm, comfy beds and with everything we needed. Alston is a nice place to be. Less walking this time but nice cafes and pubs nearby to walk to. 30 mins from Hadrian’s wall and easily doable to Carlisle and Newcastle which was fab. Thanks Sonia and Peter
This was my mum's dream place to be. Unfortunately she passed not long after moving, I never understood why till when I went there myself. It is an area of outstanding beauty. The people are ever so friendly and welcoming. There are so many amazing walks and places to visit. It's very far out in the middle of no-where but once you get there you won't want to leave. The pubs are lovely and the take away Jack's is ran by a gentleman from down South who relocated he does amazing food. The spar shop in the garage was perfect. We could have stayed forever.
Alston is a great base, but needs bringing into the 21st Century. Plenty of walks around Alston and some very nice places on your door step. We stumled across an awesome food/cafe called The Nook at Epiacum Roman Fort - so good we had breakfast there EVERY DAY
Alston is a small market town with a range of independent shops, but also a well stocked SPAR and CO-OP. The countryside is beautiful and lots of walking opportunities from your doorstep. Ideally located for the Pennine Way. We would highly recommend Alston and if you go you won't be disappointed!
We chose because of previous reviews saying what a lovely little town it was with a good selection of interesting little shops. Don't know if it's down to the pandemic but reality is it's a bit of a ghost town. Probably not helped by roadworks in middle closing off part of main street for weeks but most shops were closed. Garage Spar open with good selection on offer but the quaint little shops we went for were on the whole closed. Very sad. We had an evening meal at Angel Inn. No frills just a basic pub but food was good and service friendly so would recommend it for a good place for pub grub.
A good place to stay and take trips out.. We had a trip on the South Tyne Railway, unfortunately without the Steam engine, as the fireman was not able to be on duty. Had a very enjoyable lunch at the Alston Railway Café, the staff were wonderful and managed to accommodate all 12 of us around one large table. We visited the Café again on our last day, this time in the evening. Again, very good! We also had a very nice evening meal at Alston house. It was a shame that the road in the centre of Alston was closed, so we couldn’t drive through, due to road works lasting for 19 weeks! This can’t be good for the businesses in Alston.
Alston was a nice place only problem it was wednesday and everything was closed. I also recomend nobody stop at the Victoria inn or even have a drink there it is the dirtiest place i have ever been in definately not cleamed let alone sanitised.

Every aspect was excellent...very good value for money - the room is stunning; a similar hotel room would cost more than double The lack of cask ale in the room was more than made up for by the excellent Turk’s Head and three other great local pubs

Jane was a responsive and helpful host; good communication. Requested yogurt for breakfast, and she provided it. Large space with sofa and table. Good bathroom. Excellent location for those walking the Pennine Way. Alston is a lovely village, too.
