Nent Hall offers a charming destination to enjoy a relaxing break. Set in peaceful gardens, this property is only a short drive from the Lake District, Hadrian's Wall and much more. lovely room, quiet surrounds in a lovely countryside setting. Great and friendly staff.
Lowbyer Manor Country House is a 4-star guest house, offering accommodations of exceptional value. In the heart of the Northern Pennines, it is a perfect base for exploring the Lake District. Super friendly and welcoming owners, bright, warm and comfortable room. Lovely, fresh and tasty breakfast Very quiet through the night. Slept very well.
This family-run hotel in tranquil Alston is on the Pennine Way and offers local home-cooked food in an area of outstanding natural beauty that is a paradise for hikers and cyclists. What a lovely couple! Nothing was too much trouble regarding charging our e-bikes (whose batteries can not be removed), an extension lead was found and they were securely stored out of site. Our room was very cute, up on the top floor with a great shower and a comfy bed. Down stairs we ate in the bar, beside a lovely log fire, which was a welcome site having been on our bikes all day. The food was excellent and the gin menu was even better. Breakfast was very tasty, however I would just like to say that the mixed berry fruits on my hot pancakes would have been nicer if they hadn't still been slightly frozen. This is an excellent place to stay, albeit slightly off the C2C route.
'Stokoe Cottage' is set in Alston. Complimentary WiFi is available. The property consists of 1 separate bedroom, 1 bathroom and a living room. The house is superb, the hosts helpful and I thought the provision of dog towels was a very nice touch although I had brought my own. I just wish I could have stayed longer 11/10.
Old Headmasters House is located in Alston. The property is 29 miles from Carlisle, and complimentary private parking is available. Everything! Very spacious, bathrooms for everyone. Pool was a very nice touch. The area is great aswell, lovely walks by the river.
Gilderdale offers accommodations 591 feet from Alston town center. At the guest house, every room includes a wardrobe and a flat-screen TV. Each room comes with a private bathroom with a hair dryer. I was very delighted how clean and organized everything inside the room, the owner is also very helpful and friendly. Would definitely come back there again with my children and the location is perfect walking distance to the shops and cafe
Located in Alston in the Cumbria region, Alston Art Apartments provides accommodations with free WiFi and free private parking. This was our second visit to Sowerberry apartment. Really lovely place to stay, friendly hosts, warm, comfy beds and with everything we needed. Alston is a nice place to be. Less walking this time but nice cafes and pubs nearby to walk to. 30 mins from Hadrian’s wall and easily doable to Carlisle and Newcastle which was fab. Thanks Sonia and Peter
Fantastic find, room above and beyond expectations, food beautifully presented, lovely spacious lounge, staff very accommodating. Lots of lovely walks in the area. Great value for money. Other guests very friendly.
This was my mum's dream place to be. Unfortunately she passed not long after moving, I never understood why till when I went there myself. It is an area of outstanding beauty. The people are ever so friendly and welcoming. There are so many amazing walks and places to visit. It's very far out in the middle of no-where but once you get there you won't want to leave. The pubs are lovely and the take away Jack's is ran by a gentleman from down South who relocated he does amazing food. The spar shop in the garage was perfect. We could have stayed forever.
Alston is a great base, but needs bringing into the 21st Century. Plenty of walks around Alston and some very nice places on your door step. We stumled across an awesome food/cafe called The Nook at Epiacum Roman Fort - so good we had breakfast there EVERY DAY
Alston is a small market town with a range of independent shops, but also a well stocked SPAR and CO-OP. The countryside is beautiful and lots of walking opportunities from your doorstep. Ideally located for the Pennine Way. We would highly recommend Alston and if you go you won't be disappointed!
We chose because of previous reviews saying what a lovely little town it was with a good selection of interesting little shops. Don't know if it's down to the pandemic but reality is it's a bit of a ghost town. Probably not helped by roadworks in middle closing off part of main street for weeks but most shops were closed. Garage Spar open with good selection on offer but the quaint little shops we went for were on the whole closed. Very sad. We had an evening meal at Angel Inn. No frills just a basic pub but food was good and service friendly so would recommend it for a good place for pub grub.
A good place to stay and take trips out.. We had a trip on the South Tyne Railway, unfortunately without the Steam engine, as the fireman was not able to be on duty. Had a very enjoyable lunch at the Alston Railway Café, the staff were wonderful and managed to accommodate all 12 of us around one large table. We visited the Café again on our last day, this time in the evening. Again, very good! We also had a very nice evening meal at Alston house. It was a shame that the road in the centre of Alston was closed, so we couldn’t drive through, due to road works lasting for 19 weeks! This can’t be good for the businesses in Alston.
The location was perfect. Lots of birds singing in the morning and you can see a hedgehog or two in the evening. There were a couple of footpaths around the property that lead to the nearest town Alston. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. I traveled with pets and the hosts were very understanding. The cottage looked exactly like on the photos. We had a great time staying at Ghyll Burn cottage.
The bedroom was comfortable, spacious and characterful. Staff were very friendly welcoming and helpful. Both Dinner and breakfast were lovely The little town of Alston is gorgeous and the surrounding countryside and villages were a delight for motorbike riding cycling and walkers what a beautiful part of the world we have discovered. We will definitely be back to this special hotel
The location is in the centre of Alston and everything is close by. The owner is clearly trying her best to make everyone feel welcome but unfortunately she doesn't have a good product. Our bikes were stored in a locked general storage area, close to the pubgoers, one of our group was a little worried about how secure this was considering the value of his bike.
A comfortable, well-equipped apartment with plenty of space. Excellent location at the heart of Alston, and a convenient base for exploring the surrounding area, including Hadrian's Wall. We didn't meet our hosts, but they were very helpful when we phoned to make arrangements for picking up the key.
Everything! The apartment was beautiful, the location was great for visiting the amazing Roman sites nearby and the local pub( the Turks head)/ people there were just lovely. We will definitely be coming back! Thank you everyone in Alston, we had a fabulous time 😊
Jane was a responsive and helpful host; good communication. Requested yogurt for breakfast, and she provided it. Large space with sofa and table. Good bathroom. Excellent location for those walking the Pennine Way. Alston is a lovely village, too.
Welcome stop on our C2C trip. Room we booked wasn't available but the hotel resolved this with us in advance and were more than happy with what we were offered. Nice evening meal and breakfast.
Good value for money. Room was clean and functional if a little dated. Evening meal was fine. Inn was handy for the centre of Alston and the SPAR next door.
The Hotel is full of character and Owners and Staff very helpful and friendly.
Great walk in to Alston for coffee at the station
Lovely secluded wee house, fully equipped for a couple of days off the grid. Owners wee touches fresh milk n wee pkt of biscuits was a lovely touch. The B n B host / dogs were very friendly/helpful absolutely loved the 4 days there n settling in at night with the log/ coal fire was an added bonus ( too cold for the hot tub for us) Hopefully be back in the summer to enjoy this wee hidden gem vx
We had the best time at Isaacs Byre over Christmas. The house was spotless. I have never stayed anywhere so clean. The kitchen is also very well stocked with kitchenware and had everything we needed to cook our Christmas Dinner. The location is amazing and we did get snow. The neighbours were also lovely and my son was able to do some sledging in the field opposite. We would definately go back again.
Firstly the staff were so friendly and obliging. Even when busy they had time to listen. The food in the restaurant was first class, along with good service. The drinks were reasonably priced and they made super gin cocktails. Always a lovely open fire to sit by and relax, which to us is what Alston is all about. We need longer next time!
Beautifully decorated and so relaxing. lovely sitting area and lovely balcony. considering this property is in a small enclosed back street it is absolutely delightful and so so quiet. loved the view of the church. Very comfortable and great for a short break.
Our stay was Amazing! Beautiful, Spacious apartment with everything we needed. Ted & Amanda were great hosts. Will definitely be back.
Food was excellent, staff brilliant nothing too much trouble. Very comfy bed
Good location for my trip. All what necessary was there. Clean.
