We love Ambleside. We visited the Stock Gyll Force and enjoyed browsing the many small shops. We had a meal at The Flying Fleece then walked to Misto for dessert and a cocktail. If you have time the Hayes Garden Centre is well worth a visit.Christmas decorations, traditional or modern, were on sale and there was so much to choose from. If you like walking you'll love Ambleside, and there are plenty of local buses for when you want to travel further. On our next visit we would avoid staying for only one night!
Ambleside has become very busy but you can find solitude, the beauty of staying just outside the centre is that you can do that. The facilities, walks the sheer beauty of the surrounding area is breathtaking. The eating places and cafes, shops and cinemas make it versatile and attractive to families and couples. In the centre or on the periphery you cannot be disappointed.
Ambleside is a great central base for exploring the southern part of the Lake District. It has a good selection of shops and places to eat. Although if you're travelling 'out of season' some eateries seem to close on a Monday.
Unfortunately, on this occasion the weather was appalling. Even though it is to be expected in The Lakes in October, it was particularly bad, making sight seeing almost impossible (nothing to see due to constant mist!). However, it was quieter than in the summer months making shopping and dining out a little easier. We had some excellent food at The Ambleside Inn, and actually wished we’d booked to stay there! It’s only a short walk to Ambleside Pier where it is lovely for people watching, coffee, strolling by Lake Windermere etc. Ambleside is an ideal base for visiting so many nearby towns and attractions, I would thoroughly recommend it.
A bustling town filled with eateries and quirky shops. Some very good restaurants , we tried The Priests Hole which seemed odd in it's décor but the food was amazing, Be prepared for the streets to be crowded as they are narrow and also it seemed that a few cafes don't open until 11 at the earliest which leads to the ones that are open being full. Bus links between Ambleside and other locations are excellent and the use of a rover ticket can save you some money.
Stayed here many times over 40 odd years. B&B, Hotels and self catering. The standards of accommodation get higher an higher. Sadly because of the pandemic we chose not to eat out though it certainly has something for everyone from basic pasties to gourmet Vegan and Veggy. Ambleside is very 'trendy' with Supercool bars Cafes and Restaurants. Dog friendly child friendly, though many narrow sidewalks unsuitable for the infirm elderly or wheelchairs.
The staff were extremely accommodating in this difficult time and considering it was those first weekend open after lockdown they were extremely well organised and the hotel was IMMACULATELY clean even though it is dog friendly - we were made to feel extremely welcome and it was so easy with the dog I was surprised that the accommodation was to this standard given it is dog friendly . The breakfast and dinner option is a must do the food is absolutely excellent and amazing value for the extra money - I’d give the food 11/10 if I could
Ambleside
Location absolutely brilliant ,we had the back add on ( double room ,with en suite and it over looked the mountain ,a lovely sight to wake up to every day ,the location couldn't of been better and Rob the host was very helpful with anything we needed to know ,after staying here it will be the only place I want to come back too ,Ferndale Lodge and Ambleside, it's perfect😍 all dog friendly ,infact I think dogs rule the lake district.
We received a very warm welcome from the staff on arrival after a rather long journey due to poor traffic on the M6. The rooms, bar and hotel were very accommodating for our two dogs. The room was very clean, the view was excellent and the bed was huge! Providing a lovely peaceful place to retreat. The restaurant food was delicious in the evening and the breakfast was wonderful. Parking was available and an excellent lakeside location.

Breakfast was excellent each day and hosts remembered our orders. set up for the day. Hosts were very helpful and accommodating to all requests ( eg we had bikes delivered to the B&B ). Room was good size , big bed and just right temperature. Room was made up daily.
