Our room opened in the garden. it was very beautiful. The breakfast was excellent with very good service. They offer continental breakfast alongwith hot breakfast on order which was delightful. the wifi was excellent. the overall rating of the hotel being down due to wifi is not reflective the current status. It was a refreshing experience being there.

The George Hotel, hotel in Askham

The traditional The George Hotel, stands in the very center of the bustling market town of Penrith on the edge of the Lake District and the North Pennines.

The front desk staff, the breakfast crew, and the cleaners were absolutely friendly and engaging. The buffet and cooked breakfast were all very good. The room decor was simple, crisp, and very uplifting. The bed was slightly higher off the ground than standard, which we favoured (easier for people like us with back issues to get on and off). Lovely view of the town centre from our room (2nd or 3rd floor, I can't remember). We also got lucky with parking and had a spot right in front of the hotel.

Roundthorn Country House & Luxury Apartments, hotel in Askham

The Roundthorn Country House and luxury self-catering Mews Apartments are set in landscaped gardens, with panoramic views of the Eden Valley and Lakeland Fells.

First class hotel. Friendly helpful staff, beautiful, comfortable room and excellent food. We were driving south from Scotland to Liverpool to join a cruise ship, unfortunately due to bad weather conditions our itinerary was changed and we elected not to sail. I rang the hotel on our way back north and were delighted that they were able to give us the same room. Would definitely stay at Roundthorn again.

The Station Hotel Penrith, hotel in Askham

The Station Hotel Penrith features a garden, shared lounge, a terrace and bar in Penrith.

The owner and all of the staff were terrific. They helped with my luggage, check-in, and gave suggestions about local sites. The owner checked me in, then later cooked my dinner and in the morning made my breakfast! These two last items are not easy with my dietary constraints but he went out of his way to make sure I had a perfect stay.

The local store was warm and friendly and for a village store exceptionally well stocked. The Queen's head across the road charged £23 for two drinks then at 9pm called it quits for the evening and hurried us up to leave, cleaning around us, cashing up then setting up for breakfast. Doors slammed and bolted by 9.45pm. Woken early by dog walkers enjoying the village.

    A small very quiet village.

A small very quiet village. The pub we stayed in was the only place to stay and eat as the other one is currently closed. There is an open air swimming pool but we didnt use it, as it was fully booked. Askham Hall Gardens is a beautiful place with a lovely little cafe., well worth the small £4 entry fee. Great for peace and quiet and not far to Ullswater.

This is a lovely little village with plenty of places to explore and totally re-charge your batteries. You can either have a nice long walk or drive to nearby places with plenty to do, including scenic boat trips and water sports, and on returning to the village there are two hostelries serving good food and drinks, in front of a roaring fire, where you can totally unwind.
