The Checkers is a 14th-century coaching inn located in the picturesque Kent village of Smarden. Bedrooms feature exposed wooden beams and the candlelit restaurant serves fine British cuisine. The room was lovely. We stayed in the Guinevere room (luxury double room with brass bathtub) which is spacious and has a comfortable bed and large walk in shower. The food is wonderful - all the evening meals we had were delicious. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Great location for visiting National Trust properties (lots in the area), as well as Leeds Castle. The village of Smarden is also pretty and worth walking round.
Beautiful peaceful village to explore the Kent countryside. Had a lovely lunch in the local - The Bull. Highly recommend. Visited Tenterton for a trip on the steam train to Bodium Castle which was beautiful.
