Great Victoria Hotel, hotel in Bradford

Featuring a bar, Great Victoria Hotel is located in Bradford in the West Yorkshire region, 8 miles from Victoria Theatre and 9.4 miles from Leeds Town Hall.

The location of the hotel was ideal, just across the street from the Bradford Interchange train station. There was a lot of construction in the city centre, so navigating to the hotel was easy, even in the rain. The hotel had old world charm, and felt very stately. The staff was friendly and the buffet was excellent, with both buffet or menu choices, depending on the occupancy of the hotel.

Bradford has made an amazing comeback in the past several years. Lots of excellent pub, restaurants and breakfast spots. There's some great shopping and a spectacular town square with colorful magic fountains and beautiful lighting on the town hall. Above all, is the National Science and Media Museum! The museum features the Pictureville cinema which is the best movie theater in the world/

It felt like a different country, multi-cultural society gone mad, more like taken over. The roads are a nightmare but all that I can cope with. The accommodation Stayed in was appalling, like staying in a blockbof flats on a rough council estate!

This is a review of Shipley, not Bradford. we didn't go into Bradford itself. Shipley is a very busy little town with lots of through traffic. It is well situated for visiting Saltaire Village which is a World Heritage Site. The Mill houses the Hockney exhibition but note it is closed Mon/Tues. For a great pint and pizza visit Salts Brewery, not to be confused with Saltaire Brewery which is the other end of town. Plenty of buses locally and good train service into Leeds and Skipton. The bakery in Saltaire is great. Try the Jamaican slice. Even if you're not veggie it's delicious. Be prepared to queue as it's always busy. If you want a cheap but good breakfast go to the little cafe in Shipley Market. You won't be disappointed. Plenty of character. For a very good reasonably priced evening meal try Sambuco Italian. Two courses for £11.95. But you ,must book in advance, It's very popular. Also, for a heritage visit take a drive or get a bus to East Riddlesden Hall. It's a fabulous site dating from 17th century. It has a delightful cafe on site.

We were there for a concert at St Georges Hall which is a lovely old fashioned concert venue but have been several times before for short stays. We enjoy staying in Bradford and it is a good base if you have a car to visit many attractions which are nearby. We have always found the people very friendly and will go back again soon for a longer stay.

Bradford is 2025 city of culture.

Bradford is 2025 city of culture. Right now its a building site as money flows in to try and regenerate a city that is poor and broken. The city center is historical yet tiny - I did it in 20 minutes and another 20 minutes for the German quarter which is basically 2 roads. Unless you are here to see a show at the IMAX or Alhambra there isn't anything to do per se in the city center.

This hotel is in an excellent location in Bradford. We stayed overnight for a show at St.Georges Hall which is a 5 minute walk away. The car park is adjacent to the hotel and only cost us £1.50 for an overnight stay. Cheap as chips. The main shopping centre is also across the road from the theatre. There is a bar in the hotel where we had a couple of drinks after the show, and an excellent buffet breakfast in the morning where you could help yourself to as much as you like.
