Brightlingsea is a quaint little town. Only one way in one way out everyone said and it’s true. Lovely fish and chips in Winkees and a great selection in the kebab shop we even brought some home there was so much left over. The pub we stayed in The Freemasons arms is so friendly and live music most weekends. We went to the promanade to see a music festival which although weather not great we still had a great time. Also it’s not far from clacton on sea where there is lots to do there. A great stay.
Walk to Bateman's Tower beautiful view across the bay. Great cafe there where you can have good food served by friendly staff. Walk along the promenade to the Marina where there is a wine bar so you can sit and enjoy the boats. Then down to the harbour where you can catch a ferry to Point Clear and over to Mersea Island. Then to finish the day pick up some fresh fish at the quayside for tea. If you have children you can also go crabbing along the jetty. Some days there are free ' have a go' days for rowing or sailing. Great day out.
If you are prepared to drive there are many excellent restaurants. We had the best Fish and chip supper ever in Frinton, they even provided a vegetarian Tofish and chips which was fantastic. Sunday lunch at The Crown Thorpe Le Soken was excellent. Don't forget to try the locals, very friendly and lovely wholesome food.
