The only positive thing you can say about Castle Douglas is...
The only positive thing you can say about Castle Douglas is that it is a convenient place from which you can travel and explore Dumfries and Galloway. I spent one day watching the red kites feeding at Bellymack Hill Farm, and the day I left I took the opportunity to travel to the Mull of Galloway because I was relatively close to it. Don't plan to stay in Castle Douglas in order to explore the town itself, there is nothing to see.

A lovely little town with plenty of shops which appealed to...
A lovely little town with plenty of shops which appealed to the wife. The natives were friendly and we enjoyed the banter. For the fellows don't miss the brewery at the bottom of town, Great tap, some great beers. Came home within lots of meat from each of the butchers shops.RichardUnited Kingdom - Scored 1010
Castle Douglas is a favourite place where we spend some time...
Castle Douglas is a favourite place where we spend some time on any trip which demands a stop off to take advantage of the independent retail stores. We know staff are friendly and cheerful, don't hassle customers and always give a warm welcome. After some shopping there is quite a number of places to stop for coffee and cake or even a more substantial meal.

Threave Gardens were lovely.

The lovely back garden is the perfect spot to relax in with a coffee or glass of wine. Gillian was very helpful, and we very much appreciated the little treats she left for us.
