Chester is pretty dull and small with very little to do. Once you have done a weekend you have done it all. The bars and restuarants are like London prices! The city centre has lots of chavy teens on a saturday afternoon. There is a musuem, a nice park, a tacky diseases experience attraction. The cathedral is free and worth a visit. At either side of the city there are animal abuse establishments that draw the crowds. The one that involves gambling attracts drunk 20 somethings with fake tan and cheap suits, so the tiny train station can be a bit rowdy. As a student city there are no student cheap areas, which is very unusual. Also note the charity shops are eyewateringly expensive. There are no public toilets in the town centre. Tip: stay outside the town centre for hotels at half the price
Chester is the best city for a stay. So much to do and the walk round the wall is brilliant. Of all the cities my wife and I visited Chester is the best. Plenty of eating places , the best being BarLounge. The only downside is don't go when the horse racing is on.
Small city centre very easy to get around on foot, ideal if you don,t mind putting the miles in,also very clean not hardly any rubbish to be seen in streets. Loads of quaint interesting pubs and plenty of restaurants to pick from, don,t book just look for a busy well used one in both daytime and evening, don,t pick the trendy ones, very overrated just follow your nose, best judge I think to tell you about the food on offer.Lots of homeless people everywhere some shouting and arguing at full pelt, not nice to see.Avoid the smelly subways around the bar streets if poss, think used by the afore mentioned people as shelter from the very bad smells while walking through just the one time we used them.
Nice historic city good central base for exploring other areas. My tip would be use the Mersey rail from Chester station purchase a day ticket and explore Liverpool and the whole Mersey rail network.
We tried many bars for cocktails and never received a decent cocktail in any of them, some where two for £12 so wasn’t that bothered, so we went to ones that were £10+ each and they were just as bad. One bar I had to ask for another shot of Malibu it was that weak, all ice. It cost me £22 for two drinks.
The city is very easy to walk round, we went on a cruise on the River Dee, visited the magnificent Cathedral, enjoyed the shops, plenty of eating out choices, we especially enjoyed a meal at Chez Joules. We met some very friendly, helpful people. We finished the trip with a visit to Chester zoo, which is a wonderful place to visit.
Friendly staff, traditional decor(Shabby Chic) Cali was very helpful and always on hand for advice about Chester. Good choice of breakfast plenty of variety. Room was lovely comfortable and clean, with daily housekeeping. We were pleasantly upgraded at no extra cost which made our stay even better. Hotel is only 15 minute walk from city centre with all attractions Chester has to offer. Would stay here again if visiting city again and would definitely recommend for fellow travellers. 😁
Hotel was central in Chester, very close to shops and resturants. Able to leave bags at the hotel before and after check in/out. Room was adequate. Had a twin room but after visiting other Macdonald hotels, this one was on the smaller size, good sized bathroom. There was 1 staff member who got us some glasses and ice who was very friendly and chatty, but this seemed a rarity for those who worked there (see negatives).
Hotel is very modern and has superb facilities. The deluxe room we stayed in was fantastic and very comfortable. Breakfast was great with an excellent choice of options. Location is brilliant being so close to motorways, Chester city centre and cheshire oaks shopping outlet. I would definitely stay here again.
Excellent location to walk into the city centre, parking available in a secure car park and easy access out of the city. Close to Chester Zoo, Blue Planet Aquarium and Cheshire Oaks. The room was very spacious and the bed was very comfortable. We will definitely return to this hotel when we return to Chester!
All the staff were more than helpful in various requests made to them and for filled them all with out question. Avery nice stay and if in Chester again the only place to stay. Parking in the hotel was free only a 10 - 15 minute walk to town center.
Chester
Excellent location for Chester City centre, and a nice high street nearby. The hotel bar was comfortable and friendly with a good selection of cask ale on offer . Breakfast was well cooked and nicely presented.
The restaurant was lovely in the evening and they did a good buffet breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located a few minute walk away from a park and ride into Chester City centre.
The staff were consistently lovely, available and helpful. The hotel is beautifully quirky and full of character, and the breakfast was fabulous. Our room was also amazing, in particular the circular bed!!
This is my hotel of choice in Chester centre. I must have been in most of the rooms now - they are all good whether you are in the old hotel or the bank extension. Queenie the cat - lovely as always
