Featuring half-timbered buildings, almost complete city walls and a wealth of Roman heritage, beautiful Chester sits by the border with Wales.
The southernmost gate of the walls overlooks the River Dee, and the road leading north is one of 4 in the city to follow the original Roman roads. To the east, the Roman Gardens include a reconstructed underfloor heating system.
Nearby Grosvenor Park has remains of a stone Roman amphitheatre, thought to have been built on the world’s largest wooden amphitheatre at the time. Over the river in the suburb of Handbridge is a 2nd-century shrine to Minerva, and an informative display in the Grosvenor Museum provides the background to all this heritage.
In the west is Chester Racecourse and nearby are the medieval castle remains. More medieval buildings line the cobbled city centre streets. Some of these are The Rows, black-and-white timbered buildings housing 2 levels of shops. Other shopping options are the indoor market by the cathedral, and the Cheshire Oaks Outlet Village in Ellesmere Port to the north. The road out there passes Chester Zoo, one of the UK’s best zoos.
Booking.com’s range of Chester accommodation includes hotels with swimming pools, guest houses by the train station and B&Bs with parking near Chester Airport.

The Chester Grosvenor restaurant Arkles is excellent, and Chester has so much choice for eating and drinking we ate at Gail's coffee shop which had a large range of sandwiches and pastries and great coffee. Also the indoor market had a lot of choice and nice seating ambiance.

I have visited Chester many times as I used to live 6 miles away . It is a beautiful place with impressive Roman Walls and wonderful shops with character like the Rows . I would recommend a visit to anyone as it is an enjoyable place to visit with lots of amenities . One of the best places I have visited is Chester Zoo which seems to have been designed and developed with the animals in mind .Both the cathedral and the museum are well worth a visit and the place is steeped with history

1Chester Zoo is a great day out, easily reachable by public transport, and with so much to see there, it's easy to spend the whole day. Chester itself has quite a few attractions, and is grrat for a spot of retail therapy in the quirky 'double decker' rown of shops.

Chester has so much to offer for history, for things to see...
Chester has so much to offer for history, for things to see and do, and for shopping. Very limited traffic is great for getting around, and if you want traffic free there are the City Walls (very near complete round) and the quiet of the canal towpaths.
The house is very clean and tidy you can tell it’s newly decorated. The owner was very accommodating we arrived early and it was ok to leave our bags to go shopping before checkin.
The hotel was very close to the city centre and the bus station is right behind the house to get to the train station.
When I stay in Chester again I will alway check availability there first before anywhere else.
A smallish room but beautifully decorated with a quality feel. A newish hotel still with that "new carpet" smell. Classy bar and restaurant area. We had a more than adequate breakfast. All the hotel colleagues seemed lovely. Reasonable car parking rates (considering the city centre location) in the multi storey adjacent. Oh, and Chester is of course a wonderful city. Can't wait to stay again.
The location of the hotel is good for chester City Centre. Approx 5 min or less walk to the city centre.
Room looked out over the canal.
Nice to have access to the spa and pool.
