Beautiful Clovelly, we was so lucky to visit at a quiet time of the year. Seeing the Donkeys happy in the field. We thoroughly recommend this lovely place. One tip! Wear the right foot wear, we saw people wearing flip flops(crazy)the cobbles are very high. We saw one poor gentleman who had fallen.
We arrived late in the day expecting it be be closing soon, as we wanted come and explore the next day. Talking with the friendly lady at the visitors centre she said we are closed now but you’re welcome to go into the village. So we walked down in the late afternoon, it was so beautiful and peaceful. We reached the harbour and watched young lads jumping in from the harbour wall and enjoyed a beer at the Red Lion. It’s about 20 years since we were there and despite the COVID closures etc it hasn’t changed and is a beautiful delight.
I loved the views and location - right by the sea. The hotel was thoughtfully decorated with a very pleasing interior. The village of Clovelly is so uniquely beautiful and special. The cobbled streets winding up the, with the quaint cottages and shops just adds such a fantastic ambience to the overall place. It felt like I was in a place of real tranquility and beauty.
A step back in time. A beautifully kept traditional fishing village that makes for the perfect getaway, & at this time of the year, without the summer crowds. Highly recommend a meal in the Red Lion restaurant. Also a very comfortable & perfectly situated place to stay.
Clovelly is charmingly quaint & well worth the slightly unnervingly steep descent over cobble stones down to the harbour, particularly in the rain. The history of the place is fascinating & a visit to the museums a must (the old school house, the fisherman's cottage, Charles Kingsley's study). A visit to the donkey stables is also delightful.
We liked the fact that if we walked down to the bottom that we could catch a landrover back to the top. Clovelly's history is interesting and the film that is shown in the Visitors Centre is worth seeing.
