Excellent view of the harbour from our room. The cottage is 700+ years old and may be the oldest in the village. The host was lovely and accommodating. She made us a good full English breakfast. Sooo quiet and peaceful with no cars in the village. The other guests were lovely -- all hikers walking the SW coast path.

A time gone , It really makes you appreciate a less is more lifestyle . The residents seem content and Rich from the pub is a gem . We encountered many residents and all were happy to chat . It made us see Clovelly in past eyes and a community which is a rare find. A great hiking trail and history . It is clean and well maintained and care is taken in planting and events we shall return I’m sure many times until they let us move in .

This is an authentic village populated by real people, not souvenir shops, Michelin food and second-homers absent for most of the year. So it immediately scores above most other fishing villages in the West Country. The absence of cars means it is relaxed and quiet. The staff in the visitor centre and hotels are friendly and the atmosphere is one of times past- in a good way- there is a pleasing lack of the corporate stamp as there is in National Trust venues, for example. It is a small place with two pubs and a couple of cafes. It is quickly explored but its charm is in its character, not in what there is to see. The steep cobbled street is hard going, especially when wet, but you can get a lift back to the top. Because it sits on the Coast Path (aka the Large Pinch of Salt Path), it is very convenient for walkers and for day trippers there is plenty of convenient parking. Much is made of the entry fee, but it is comparable with other destinations and if you stay overnight (or arrive early or late) you don't have to pay.

Very very steep. Beautiful village.

Very very steep. Beautiful village. Grateful for the jeep service that took me back up - £2:75, not included in the entrance fee to the village. You can get it at the back of the Red Lion Pub / hotel. You can get the jeep down to the harbour. The jeep stops running at 4:15 pm. The Red Lion pub / hotel, doesn't open their kitchen until 6 pm. There is food at the visitors centre and 1 cafe in the village. Buses are not frequent, i.e. one at 2:50 pm then one at 6:25 pm. There are no cash machines at Clovelly. Although some took card payments, some preferred cash.

This is a very tired hotel that needs major investment in soft furnishings, decor and management. Its location is stunning (despite being clad in scaffolding) but to unlock its full potential a professional hotelier approach is desperately needed along with a considerable investment.

Great service when checking and checking out.

Great service when checking and checking out. The locals were very friendly and welcoming. Our room was very pleasant and very clean. Enjoyed sleeping in their very crisp freshly laundered sheets and comfortable beds. Our boys stayed in the budget room with the shared bathrooms which were impeccably clean! We also enjoyed their breakfast and drinks at the pub. Thank you

The Staff were very helpful and friendly, the room was basic but clean and comfy with a large bathroom next door. The evening meal at the hotel was good pub food and reasonably priced. The pillows were exceptional.

We adored the authentic, higgledy house with low beams and log fires. It was really well equipped and both remote enough to feel calming and close enough to enjoy clovelly sights. We loved every minute of it -
