Set in a beautiful 15th-century building, White Hart Hotel features a courtyard terrace and a traditional restaurant. Lovely old pub, very atmospheric. The staff were very friendly and reception very helpful. It was especially good that we were still able to eat there in the evening though we arrived only minutes before the official last meal orders. One room was very spacious and comfortable, the other room perhaps not as roomy, though large enough and quieter. Breakfast was good and all in all it was a very pleasant stay.
With contemporary style and comfort within an historic listed country house, this privately owned hotel sits discreetly amid 75 acres of Essex parkland, within 30 minutes of Stansted Airport. We had our wedding here 3 years ago, so wanted to return for our anniversary. It’s still as lovely as ever. We have stayed about 4 times now (I think!) and will be back! Great food, service, with friendly and helpful staff. We had to move rooms due to a wasp nest but it was all professionally dealt with by Karen and worked out fine. Better safe than sorry!
Surrounded by the countryside, 1 and half mile from Coggeshall and 15 minutes’ drive from the historic Colchester town center, The Kings Arms is a family-run pub offering rooms with free WiFi and free... Homely feeling and very good service from booking to departure.
Located in Braintree, 3.7 mi from Freeport Braintree, The Onley has a number of amenities including a restaurant, a bar, a garden and free WiFi. Guest rooms in the hotel are equipped with a kettle. Staff were very welcoming, we had lunch in the bar and then checked in, was taken to our room which was beautiful and very clean. We was out for the evening but when returned we had some drinks outside, lovely atmosphere very reasonably priced.
Offering a children's playground and views of the garden, The Cartlodge B & B is set in Colchester, 7.5 mi from Colchester Zoo. Good breakfast choices. Warm, comfortable and friendly environment. Close to village for pub-grub and provisions etc. Our dogs were very comfortable and enjoyed their stay too.
Very basic hotel. Randomly had a rowing machine in our room, no explanation. Could have been cleaner. No soap in the bathroom. I would have at least excepted to see soap in the room. Shower was disappointing. Needs updating throughout. Wouldn’t return
This is a delightful Essex village with a lot of history. Having been wealthy in medieval times (from the wool trade) it has over 90 buildings of historic interest. The streets in the centre of the village are picture-postcard perfect. There is a river through the village that makes it even more scenic. The main church has a well-cared for church yard and cemetery which is very interesting to walk around. There is also a strong sense of community which extends to visitors - we felt very at home and welcomed. Everything is walkable which is just as well as the roads are narrow and hard to navigate. We ate in the White Hart hotel which was great and all other eateries seem very good quality. A lovely place to stay!
Coggeshall is a small pretty village with a few facilities. Has a Co-op supermarket and a small newsagents and few other small shops. The Coggeshall Spice Indian restaurant is exceptionally good. The National Trust property, Paycocks, is small and pretty, but has limited opening hours. Not much to do in the village itself but gives a base for touring the area. The White Hart does pub grub of reasonable quality and advertise serving food all day - but don't rely on it!!!
the village would have looked a lot better on a sunny day, the weather was terrible whilst we were there. it would have been nice to have explored , especially a walk along the river or visit to other hostellers and shops.
We stayed here as we are walking the Essex way and this is half way point. Coggeshall is a lovely place and great for walking. The restaurants get booked up very quickly locally so book in advance. We couldn’t get in anywhere for an evening meal. However we ate at the hotel and the food is good and reasonably priced. The bar staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Take a visit to at peters church at the end of the road it’s beautiful. We didn’t get to see much else as we were out walking and got back when it was dark.
Comfortable bed and lovely surroundings. Sadly, for a stay on business, it was difficult as there was no Desk space for a computer and the plugs were positioned in such a way that my Battery would not plug in to it so I had no means of charging my Computer or Phone.
