Colchester is hell on earth.
Dirty, fighting, the whole city centre drunk full of absolute idiots.
Dirty streets full of sick.
Every thing we bought from the shops was out of date when we brought back to room.
Bees Indian in the town centre, made us all ill. Serving curry with squirty cream and glacier cherry.
The people are very very rude! Absolute hell hole.

We didn’t see the sights of Colchester this time as we were visiting friends, but we will next time we visit. Driving through the town was relatively simple, the only downside being lots of traffic lights, but it’s the same anywhere these days. It’s a beautiful town with plenty of things to do, some very old properties which are beautiful to look at, especially if you are a a history buff.. I would definitely recommend Colchester. It was out very first visit but definitely won’t be our last.

Colchester is a beautiful city with a mix of cultures.
Colchester is a beautiful city with a mix of cultures. Everyone is friendly and helpful. As Britain's oldest / first city it has alot of history to explore. The castle and its grounds is worth a visit- Ellie was an amazing tour guild. Colchester also has an exciting night life with bars, pubs and clubs to suit everyone taste.
Visit Colchester, you will not be disappointed!

Not really impressed with the town, (apologies if you live there), dogs are not allowed in the Upper Castle gardens, and there's no signposting of how to get to the Lower Castle gardens where dogs are permitted.
Within about 3 hours we were ready to leave!!

Really interesting old part of town has lots of smaller shops selling all sorts of things you don't normally see elsewhere. Lots of historic buildings and plenty of good restaurants with bars to match including a micro brewery.

Colchester is a vibrant town with a wealth of history.
Colchester is a vibrant town with a wealth of history. If you are into history you should definitely visit the castle (and go on the tour up to the battlements and down to the vaults where you can see the basement of the temple of Claudius which was destroyed during Boudicca's uprising). There are a multitude of quite stunning timber framed buildings in the Dutch quarter and a lot to see pertaining to the Siege of Colchester (1648) during the Civil Wars (the Siege House is worth seeing and finding all of the 17th century musket ball holes inside and out of its fabric!) There's also the foundations of one of the earliest Christian churches (Roman!) to see, St. Botolph's Priory remains and the remains of St. John's Abbey gatehouse. There is also a number of medieval churches (including Holy Trinity which incorporates a lot of Roman tiles in its beautiful tower) and the massive "Jumbo" water tower. The Tourist Information can point you towards all of these things and provide you with a map.
Oh yes there are lots of shops to see - both chain stores and little independent shops... if that's your thing!
Due to the train strike by Greater Anglier (30 Sep 2023 to 04 Oct 2023), I had to stay in Colchester for a few nights for work purpose. When I checked in, I was greeted by Roland (the hotel manager). He helped me settle down in my lovely ensuite bedroom and enriched me with the history of Colchester. He provided excellent customer service for all the guests of the hotel. This hotel is highly recommended, and I hope everyone who goes to Colchester Boutique Hotel will feel comfortable and delighted.
Excellent value. Stayed one night in a standard double. Location spot on, short drive to Colchester and it's environs, plenty of parking at the hotel, pleasant ambience inside and out. Very helpful staff on reception and in the restaurant, where we had some very nice food from the starter menu when we arrived.
The location was the real selling point and the rates were reasonable. There was parking behind the George Hotel at £9.50 for 24hrs which was a good rate. The place was clean and comfortable. If you're looking for a base camp to come back to and you want to be in Central Colchester it's great.
Everything, from reception, service at bar and at brekky, room style and comfort and overall quaint furnishing of the hotel. What a charming place to stay in the heart of Roman colchester town!
Have used this hotel a few times when spending a day and night in Colchester. Great Central location,.friendly and helpful staff. Beds clean an comfortable
