Walworth Castle Hotel is in the rolling Tees Valley countryside, west of Darlington. Dating back to 1189, this historic building is surrounded by 18 acres of stunning lawns and woodlands. The staff, especially Susan Head T reception, was beyond superb. Added so much to the overall excellent experience. The castle itself is glorious, the owners have done a spectacular job in appointing it and bring it to its glory. Let very grounds and the History is awesome! A real castle built over 900 years ago and visited by King James I of England!

Reception ... Tracy was really welcoming, happy, helpful, polite and was pleased to give us a little information about the history of the house when asked. Room ... very homely and good size ... comfortable bed ... crisp linen ... super pillows ... large bathroom ... good storage. Breakfast ... very good ... the continental breakfast offered a huge selection and the cooked breakfast was really yummy. Swimming Pool and Jacuzzi ... a good sized pool ... nice warm jacuzzi ... good facilities. Staff ... all the staff were very polite, happy and helpful.
We visited 2 Roman sites - Piercebridge and Binchester (Bishop Auckland) - both interesting with plenty to see -old bridge & intact bathhouse. We went to Richmond to see the town and castle - plenty of parking in centre - and also Easby Abbey, which is magnificent. Must see Darlington another time.
I stayed in Darlington for logistical reasons, and it was going to be just a bed for the night. I had looked at facilities and got the lay of the land via Google Street view. My first impression from my research was that it was a bit godforsaken, and so my expectations were very low. Google street view made it look very desaturated, run down and grubby, but in reality, it was nice and tidy with good clean well-maintained roads. After dropping bags off at the hotel we wandered down into town for some food and drink and a little wander, and you can tell that the council really do everything they can. The new entertainment centre is a big positive and with a good selection of eateries from various big chains. One thing that did strike me, was how dead it was. It was a Wednesday night, but coming from a big city it felt deserted. We walked around to the covered market that again looks like it has been lovingly updated, and everything that surrounds it is in very good clean condition with nice touches like waterfall steps. We stopped off for a drink at the Quakerhouse, one of many Camra recognised pubs. I am not a real ale drinker myself, but apparently Darlington is a hotspot for pubs that do take their craft seriously. We took the start of the live music as our queue to get some food, and headed back to the entertainment complex and chose the Hungry Horse, where the food and the value were both excellent, and as with everywhere else we went, the people were lovely and warm. The only downside was the overeger traffic wardens fining anyone turning up to try and pick food up from the local eateries. Considering the centre was absolutely dead, you would think that the council would strive to get people to come in and grow the local economy, and not look to scare people off
I have not been to Darlington since the late 1980s, but I was happy to see Darlington again after all those years. Another good thing about Darlington, is it is a good base to go to other places like York Or Newcastle.
Owner / management of the property agreed to refund me and asked me to review the property event though I never stayed on this property. After feedback they have been completely ignored me, ignored my emails and other communication. No refund what so ever as promised. Booking.com did not helped at all. I would not recommend this property to anyone. Owner is this property is very rude and no communication at all!!!!
Darlington has a very good shopping area. Carparking is right in the centre and is free for a couple of hours. The toby carvery gave excelent service and the fodd was excelent. Fish and chips from DTon fish shop are the best.
I had stayed at this hotel before and not used it again due to a bad experience with someone waking me up in the middle of the night as they mislaid their key. The excellent scores since and hotel manager taking the time to reply to guests comments made me try again and I have to say my stay was excellent. Will be using again as I stay in Darlington a few times a year for the football. Staff so friendly on arrival and my room was fantastic for the money.
The main part of the hotel was beautiful and had a lovely modern country-living vibe to it. Nice bar, friendly staff. Room service breakfast was a big bonus and room was big enough to enjoy it at our table by the window. Pizzas at the bar available until very late and they are delicious!! Iron, ironing board and tea and coffee making facilities. We booked this as we were attending an event at Darlington arena. Taxi was only £5 from the property.
Very comfortable stay in a hotel that is well placed in the centre of town. We didn’t know Darlington (we had arranged to meet friends) but the town was surprisingly nice with plenty of bars and restaurants in a pleasant centre. Certainly recommend the tapas restaurant…! Had few issues with a dodgy door lock (yep, that’s us…) but the staff were always pleasant and helpful. Would be fine staying there again.
Darlington

Darlington
During our last stay in August 2020 we experienced a few small issues. We were offered a complimentary 3 course meal should we return as a gesture of goodwill. Even after all this time it was still honoured. There was also a handwritten card welcoming us back in our room and champagne in our fridge. It has shown us the issues we experienced previously were a one-off but have been dealt with very well and that is how we judge. Guest satisfaction is clearly a priority. We will definitely be back. Thank you Chris.
Darlington
Excellent value for money, close to town centre, supermarkets and popular fast food outlets. Secure apartment in an old Public House. Everything you need in the apartment including a washing machine. Although we didn't cook there was a well equipped kitchen. The wi-fi was good and there was a freeview TV with a selection of DVD's, books and games. As a base to visit relatives it was an excellent choice for a family of four.
